Deet always works for me. I rub it on before hitting the woods and they stay off of me. I usually buy mine at Wal-Mart and it runs about four bucks a bottle. One bottle usually lasts a year for me also. The trade name is Repel and it is 20% deet.

Tuck your pants in your boots, and shirt into pants. Spray around you boots/ pants line and again around your waist with some deep woods off.

Sulfur works good for chiggers, but it smells bad when you get hot.

X2... use the deet products and spray liberally. If you do get bit, use Fresh Mint Listerine... it kills the itch.

Works regardless of when you scratch.

Sawyer permethrin clothes spray works for me. You spray it on your clothes and let it dry before wearing them. You still need to use deet on your exposed skin. I usually keep a set of pants, shirt, and a couple of pairs of socks just for woods wear. The stuff claims to be effective through several washes. I do know that it is good on ticks, chiggers, and mosquitos.

Peremethrin sprays on your clothes work best. DEET on exposed skin. DEET on clothes also works, but Permethrin works better.

DEET just "confuses" biting insects. Permethrin kills them on contact.

Just remember that chiggers are small enough to crawl through the weave of any clothing (tucking pant legs into boots or duct-taping sleeves and pant legs won't keep them out of your pants).

WHEN you do get em, I found some thing that makes em not itch so bad and go away quicker. "Chigger Rid"

I got eat up by em the other day when the woods caught fire down here at my buddies. I had over 200 bites!!

I feel for ya. I got in them like that a few years ago. My dumb tail didnt spray up before going out one September morning. I had a mix between them and seed ticks. All within my sock lines, i bet there was at least 200. I couldnt sleep for two nights it itched so bad.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

If you get bit and they begin to itch spray with benadryl. It works well for me.

Fingernail polish remover has worked for me in past. It burns but will stop itching. I guess it is the acetone.

When asking for chigger advice, be forewarned that someone is going to bring up remedies involving "choking off the air supply to the chigger." Usually this involves putting nail polish or some other substance that produces a hard, air-tight cap over the bite site.

But in reality, by the time you get the red itchy bump, the chigger is long gone. They are a tiny, tiny critter, and it doesn't take them long to drink all the liquified skin from you they need.
