Yep, a Bannerstone which are generally believed to be Atlatl launching counterweights. A highly sought after artifact. The fact that it is translucent quartz makes it even more special. I have found quite a good number of artifacts over the years but only one Bannerstone and it isn't nearly as pretty as that one.

Amazing the effort that went into a counterweight/ spindle weight. Our society has declined so much and gotten so lazy

That is one lucky fella and a once in several lifetimes find. I spent several thousands of hours in holes looking for something like that and never even came close.Saw some incredible stuff come out of the ground but never picked the right hole.

Yep. Work smarter, not harder. The Indians found that out the hard way and if they had 575 duzen bannerstones it wouldn't have made a difference

Its a bannerstone, and its a decoration not a tool. Basically a guy had one of those on a stick to show he is important.

I have found two of those, just south of Moundville. Both are broken.

Very nice find. The only way you’re going to find something like that is digging.

I watch him also and agree. I’ve never found anything like he does in creeks. Another one is Hawking Lithics.

Not necessarily. I'm patiently waiting on the pines that were planted on my best finding spot to reach maturity in a couple of years and be cut so the stumps can then be dozed up. That is when I'll be able to find some treasures.

That looks like a surface find. Gotta keep your eyes on the ground always. A buddys' friend was standing around the gate with him getting ready to go hunting, looked down and there is one of the nicest SE Bama celts I have ever seen. No telling how many people walker right over the dang thing. Best find I ever personally witnessed was a guy digging 10 feet from me on a site I held permission on. He first found 1/2 a broken Gorget and was of course ecstatic. Even that is incredibly rare. Then he found the other 1/2 . And then he found the three remaining whole Gorgets stacked on top of a g10 6"' blade of some sort I had never seen before. A plow had at some time got just deep enough to scrape off the top Gorget. The Gorgets were identical hardstone stamped out two-holers about 10" long, and if I remember correctly one had tally marks. Absolutely incredible find. Within about 50 feet of that another buddy found four 4" 1st stage Coral Citrus's stacked on top of a slightly larger chert point, I think maybe was a Seminole. Also found nearby were three of the nicest fire treated Coral Hernandos imaginable, also stacked on top of each other. It was my site for years and I never found a darn thing that was truly exceptional. But thats why they call it hunting. Sorry to ramble, my digging days were some of the straight up funnest times of my life. Good memories and good friends.
