Does anyone have any personal experience with a divorce attorney they would recommend in the Montgomery area? Specifically one with child custody experience. Please send me a PM if you do.

Goodluck! I've been screwed for 13 years. A lot of money went down the drain. He's almost at the age to see thru his mother's BS so it's working itself out. Best of luck to you, it's a long, stressful grind. Just keep your kiddos first in all your decisions and one day when they are older they will see your sacrifice.

there’s a Starkey guy that adverts on WJOX as a men’s attorney
one thing i’ll tell ya is - run the #’s - IOW figure out how much you really wanna spend w/an attorney vs the financial benefit to you ... if you have daughters (which i did), unless the mama’s a proven deadbeat, you’re barking up a steep tree to get custody

everybody’s sitch is different - but there comes a “fish or cut bait” moment - only you can determine that for yourself

I am going to give you some unsolicited advice. And I don't know your situation.

If you get along with your soon to be ex, the best thing you can do is sit down and agree to everything and then hire an attorney to do an uncontested divorce. You will save a pile of $.

I have custody of my children. It was not an easy or inexpensive process. It's more like he who has the most $ might win.

So if you want to duke it out, be prepared for what I am about to say to you. This is a BUSINESS transaction. Play to win!!! Get the best deal for you upfront, because going back to change something takes FOREVER, and if its pissing you off while it takes forever, that will ruin your quality of life. Do not say anything negative about your spouse, their attorney, or the court on social media. If you need someone to talk to, hire a therapist. Do not put anything out there written or electronic that can be subpoena'd. Document everything you do and your spouse does or doesn't do. He who has the best documentation has leverage. Do not ever use the kid(s) as leverage. Do not ever say anything bad about your soon to be ex in front of them or where they can hear you. Don't call your soon to be ex and yell or cuss. Stick to what is easy, a text or email.

The lawyers are all buddies. The judges don't care about you or your case, you are one of to many cases they will see in a year. A woman has to be turning tricks in front of the kids, or using (dealing) drugs, or completely unfit in some other way to lose custody. And courts like week on week off custody. I refused to agree with that.

I only know of 2 other guys who got custody of their kids. One of my other friends tried, and believe me his wife was having an affair and just generally being a stone cold you know what, multiple lies in court, and she still got custody of their daughter. There is rarely justice in domestic relations court.

It cost me about $35K in legal fees to get custody. And about 9 months to get her to settle.

Good luck.

I will say the documentation part did NOT work for me. In this town it's about who you know and the baby mommas, momma, knew more people. Complete bs. Had documentation of welfare checks and drug use along with DHR visits at the mother's home and still no progress. It's bad for the father's no matter the gender of the child. Everybody talking about police reform, screw that, we need legal custody reform in this state. Too many dead beat mommas out there. Yea they carried the baby for 9 months but so damn what, that don't mean they can abandon the child after it's outside of the womb and get away with it.

This, I heard advertisements on the radio a year or two ago about two female lawyers. Their ad "campaign's targeted father's in custody disputes, they seemed to have loopholes because I've heard of success. Maybe look that up. I'm guessing they pull the gene card in court.

Be cheaper to pay someone to get rid of her.

Lockjaw is spot on. I too had custody of my kids, my house, and child support when she was working. She was a train wreck and it was an uncontested divorce so I was lucky in that respect. No telling what she owed me in back child support, not worried about it anymore kids are 30 and 28 now. If you are the better parent you can't put a dollar amount on the welfare of your kids. The kids will realize when they are old enough to understand who loves and truly cares for them. Best of luck.

I had a female attorney, and my ex had a hum dinger of a nasty female attorney. I tried like hell to get the judge to sanction her, but.... nope. I got custody, medical and education and one other tie breaker, child support and she has to keep health insurance on them. That is something you need to watch too, depending on your age, because they have to be covered up to age 26. Oh and my ex has to transport, which is awesome, because she moved 25 miles from the marital residence, and I moved 25 miles the opposite direction!! And now she doesn't even exercise all the visitation she is entitled to get.

If you can do uncontested, use this guy. +>> https://divorceinfo.com/uncontesteddivorcewithlee.htm

I do get along with my ex, but it was tough the first year. I do not speak poorly of her to my children either. That is their mom and they love her. I just don't happen to feel the same way.... LOL!!

Like others have said don’t be nice and handicap your attorney by tying their hands. Gloves off. I tried to be nice thinking I was doing the right thing and treating her with respect and the way I did when the relationship was great. To her it truly became a business transaction like a corporate takeover and she was going to ruin me. Well it’s been 3 years and she’s still trying to ruin me. I can make more money but she can not make the children love her and the only one that still communicates with her has to because he still lives with her and after next year that will be over. Hang in there.

The nature of the work I did for years put me in the middle of many divorce custody proceedings as an impartial witness and I will say that your best bet is with a cutthroat female attorney. I can't give a good reason except that they appear to come from a motherly, best for the children perspective.

My advice is to go talk to the female lawyers in your area that have the best reputation in divorce cases before your wife hires them.

Me and my wife divorced after 5 years, 2 kids. They went by my W2 for child support and it was 1870.00 a month for 2 kids. We were divorced for 2 years and we reconciled and decided to get remarried. It took me 3 years after being remarried to get the child support order dropped with the use of a lawyer. I can tell you this and that is to not get DHR involved because they are ruthless and it takes a bunch of money and time to change what they have in place. We have now been married a total of 19 years minus the 2
