Oh, mercy. The primacy of scripture is a core doctrine of the Christian faith. Departure from Scripture is why there is so much error in guys like Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, Steven Furtick and others. The Bible describes exactly who God is and His character. Too many folks are trying to make Him up apart from what Scripture dictates. The Charismatic NAR and WOF movements are full of "worship" that is based much on experience but is much less concentrated around the Bible.

Someone else already mentioned 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

Emphasis on verse 17 about it completing man.


Yeah that's kinda what I was getting at. As I read it, complete is complete. Now, if we didn't have everything we need from scripture, fine, let's talk about a code of faith or confession or whatever you want to call it. But if scripture is God's word, and God cannot lie (also scripture), and scripture says that it is able to make a man of God complete (and all the other stuff it mentioned) ,AND in v15 says what it says (which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.)..... To me thats all there is to it? Isn't that saying that man needs the word (whether they hear it or read it) to be saved?

I know this is a bit of a thread hijack, but if we can't agree that the source of authority is scripture, I'm not sure how a man-made add-on to scripture is going to make anything any better.
