The crash was caught on tape, no survivors, total nose dive, more bad news for Boeing and the 737.. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...et-carrying-133-crashes-rural-China.html

was this one of the 737MAX planes? have they been put back into service? doesn't exactly give you the warm-fuzzy's about flying on a boeing.....

737 has a gazillion hrs of safe flying. My guess is being China it was something substandard about the way it was being flown or maintained. Of course being in China we’ll never know for sure.

Terrible for the passengers.

Question for aviation people: what would cause a passenger jet like that to go into a pure 100% nose dive?
I mean, other then a suicidal captain.

Had to have been a control failure. An engine failure wouldn’t do it.

The MAX version had some automatic system that would push the nose down to prevent stalling out when climbing. It was too aggressive or would get stuck in nose down position or something like that. If this was not a Max, then I don’t know.

The news is saying it was likely a control system malfunction, even a suicidal pilot couldnt do that with a passenger jet.

I'm not watching the video. I basically have two scenarios that I never want to be in:

1. One like this.
2. Being stuck out in the middle of the ocean in a life jacket wondering when a shark is going to eat me. Piece by piece...

This jet thing is the reason I have a simple prayer I always say every time I am on the runway taxiing to the take-off spot. That prayer is: "Dear Heavenly Father please bring me safely back to earth." And every time I touch down I give thanks to God form bringing me back down to Earth safely.

Mrs. Irish always want to book us flights and fly somewhere, and I'm like, "It's only 2,354 miles, can't we just drive?" grin

I know statistically is safer to fly than to drive, but damn, that was a hell of a ride to the other side for those poor folks.

I would guess a catastrophic structural failure. Hope the black boxes are usable.

I don't know if the failure mode exists in 737-800s for the elevator, but I know it has occurred with the rudder--anyways there is such a thing called a "hard over" hydraulic failure. If this failure were to occur in the elevator servos, the elevator could go into full deflection downward (upward would be the other failure mode). Full downward deflection would cause and uncontrollable nose dive.

For someone who has been in the airline industry for 38 years I have never seen a video like that. The 800 series has a great record. Flown on it many times.
