I’m not qualified to speak on that any longer. I’m not with DCNR any longer.
But, during turkey season, if you’re going to be turkey hunting the property, you’d need to be very cautious.

Anything you would use for hogs that’s not an attractant to turkeys would be fine.

This very question was posed to a wildlife officer last week. Any bait used in a hog trap that a turkey would eat, you would open yourself up for a ticket and your property being shut down for 10 days after all of the bait was gone. At least that is what I was told.

Soured corn or mash trailings from a still run buried in the ground for them to root. Worked great for our traps. Never seen a deer or turkey interested in it.

I used to mix a small amount of diesel with my corn for hog traps. For some reason hogs are attracted to it, but the other critters leave it alone. I also had a deal with the small town grocer where I could have all his spoiled fruit for a very good price.

Bet you got some kind of desk job now? Polishing a seat with your behind? Bet you decided to become a teacher or something? Teaching biology, the "Dominant Gobbler Theory" OR all about CWD and eliminating deer...to save deer? Well if you ever want to do some work with a Top Notch deer and land manager I know a fella..looking for a good guy who knows deer, tractors, herbicides , and isnt afraid of hard work! I might could maybe hook you up. But leave that "Dominant Gobbler Theory " BS and all the "killing all the deer is great for the herd" nonsense down there in Montgomery with Chuckie and the gang.
