Never use an uncoated steel cleaning rod. Dewey, Tipton or Montana Extreme cleaning rod with brass jags.

I use an Otis cleaning kit. The cables are coated and it has everything you need in it for rim fire all the way to .50 cal muzzle loaders.

Not to throw your thread, but I think I have the remnants of at least 4 kits as an old guy. I can always get hooked up to one of my 5 rods w/ one or more my 7 thread adaptors. (ha)

I have the Tipton gun cleaning kit just add a one piece coated rod and he will be set forever

After multiple 'high end' cleaning kits, rods, etc, I'm now using Otis gear exclusively. Plus, I've got some older guns that I can't run a rod breech-to-muzzle that the Otis cable works great for (example, Remington 760 Gamemaster pump).

Cleaning kits are for rookies don't waste your time.get a carbon fiber cleaning rod, brass slotted tips and jags with bronze bore brushes ,oil , solvent , and patches.
You don't want cleaning rods that are anything other than coated or carbon fiber and not a pull cord or bore snake garbage that's something for a bug out bag or shtf senario.if it comes in sections throw it in the garbage.also recommend a bore guide
Kits and bore snake Otis crap is better than nothing but also tells everyone I don't know how to clean a gun
