Just my opinion here on nursing homes. If both you and your wife work and depending on the level that a parent can function or mobility of your parent, there's no alternative. I still have a sense of guilt and promise that I would not want to live my life to graduate to a nursing facility. Especially if you have worked all your life to get ahead and have to pay private rates for care even though it is well earned. The level of care that was provided for my Mother was top notch, but it was very expensive. All you can do is run out of money and let the government take over or scheme ahead and have all assets out of their name. If you are a scheming, better do it well in advance.
I think assets have to be moved 5 years, may be 7 years prior to being in a nursing home. I won't own a damn thing past 70.  It is a predatory business and those folks are in it for the money. David
