Getting caught poaching was the least of their issues. UNLICENSED SUPPRESSOR on the other hand ... can't have pesky facts get in the way though.

Good try at deflecting from the wording of my post. I asked if there was an account of arrest where the perp went thru the legal channels of ownership and then got busted.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

those guys in the article never shot anything with a silencer, they got busted trying to buy one. They were also involved in a bunch of break-ins on hunting camps around Wilcox Co.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Why would someone who was planning on poaching go to the trouble of "legally" purchasing a silencer? Most any amateur machinest, with a lathe could make one.

Many years ago I read about 2 old boys from I think Dixie county Fla. They were poaching large bucks in cades cove using a bicycle and silenced rifle. As it turned out a park ranger that I use to hunt with had busted them. They got in more trouble for the silencer than the two big bucks they had killed.

I have 4 suppressed guns. If I was going to poach, I would dang sure not use one of them. Too much time, effort and $ involved. I would probably go with the cheapest rifle possible so it could be thrown out the widow with not worries.
