I am in the Bham area and decided to stop in a pawn shop that advertised they bought and sold precious metals. I asked the first guy what they bought bullion and coins for. He stared out into space for a solid minute before giving up.
The manager then told me about 50% of spot price. I rarely get insulted but I did check the mirror when I got home. Apparently I gave the guy the impression I don't come by my coins and bullion honestly.

Anyone know someone that actually pays a fair price for coins and bullion? I am not looking to sell but it never hurts to have an idea of who trades fairly.

I've tried before with silver coins but no one seems to give FMV. Maybe in a large city like Atlanta or Dallas but it seems most in the area want you to give them away.

Call the refineries direct and ask what they will give you on spot-price for that day. You can google up the refineries in your area easy.

I know they need to be able to make their money. I expect at least 80 to 90% of spot. 50? Might as well just admit you only buy stolen coins from meth heads. I literally told him if he is buying at 50, I'll give him 60 for everything he has. He just looked at me and blinked.

This has always been my concern about buying gold or silver as an investment. Go a step further now. In a time of crisis, when you are really desperate for something to trade for goods needed for survival, what good is gold going to be? I cant understand someone with a preppers mindset investing in precious metals. Seems like ammo would be the most lucrative investment for a survival type situation.

I used Doug's coin shop in Hoover a couple of years ago for some silver. Don't remember the exact details but think it was spot minus 6 or 7 percent. It seemed reasonable to me at the time

Not selling at the moment. Just thought I'd poke around in case I ever did need to suddenly liquidate.

Gold and silver have intrinsic value. There is only so much like ammo, food, 10 point bucks and pretty women. What won't be worth anything are them little green pieces of paper when times get tough. Last I checked my metals were holding their own against inflation. My dollars, not so much.
