Over the years I've had several friends with assorted in ground pools and most of them were sick of them within a few years. A good friend just filled in his 6 year old pool last year. When My family had a hankering for one I decided on an above ground for two major reasons.
1) above ground is way less expensive
2) above ground is way easier to remove all evidence of it's existence
I started with chlorine but switched it over to salt after one summer. After I think two more summers, my daughter grew bored of it and my wife and I were done with pools. So see #2 above. The only part of it I regret is going with chlorine in the beginning.
