Throwing in my 2 pennies......I tried raised beds for Strawberries twice. I couldn't keep enough water on'em. The soil in the bed was good but the sandy soil under it (natural soil) was siphon it away so fast it became a PIA to keep them alive. From this limited experience I would say have water handy or better yet, just build in an irrigation system of some kind from the start with raised beds.
