27 years. Good gracious, think how much tax money that we paid went to feed and house this dude for 27 years. It is a fact that life in prison without parole is cheaper on the tax payers than the death penalty. True, and from a Christian's standpoint, as long as that person is alive he has a chance for Salvation. Once he is executed, his fate is sealed. Just a couple of reasons why I'm not a huge fan of the Death Penalty, along with the fact that it is disproportionately weighted against the lower socioeconomic level of society. Having said that, I will again say that if anyone ever deserved it, it was Matthew, and I dealt with a lot of bad, bad people. The only way to make the death penalty a deterrent is to make it swift and certain, of which it is neither. The only real purpose it serves is to remove a bad person from society and that could be done much cheaper to the taxpayers with a Life without Parole sentence as Skinny points out.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
