Is weatherby a good brand of rifle - never shot a weatherby or held one - starting to hear good things bout them

Saw a review of 8-9 rifles tested against each other - rifles under a grand - it was the winner just edging out Bergara then Tika - not sure if review was accurate or biased

Thanks for

Weatherby guns are top notch even the vanguards japanese made are jam up.you sure can't go wrong with anything weatherby.ive heard a few rare occasions they had one that wouldn't shoot and weatherby did some additional bedding maybe put some bedding towards end of stock for barrel bpressure idk but they made it right before returning

you asking about a mark V or vanguard? vanguards are basically howa’s. Both fine rifles but fit and finish a lot nicer on mark V. No experience with the vanguard but have a howa in 7-08 that’s a shooter. The mark V’s are Cadillacs sort of like sako’s vs tikka’s.

I have a vanguard 308 with synthetic stock and really like it. It’s not the lightest rifle but it feels and looks like the quality of a higher price range of gun. I shoot very close to minute of angle at 300 yds with Winchester power point ammo. Just happened to be the cheapest I could find. There was a vanguard in the classifieds for a pretty good deal I thought. Chickenrig may have been the seller. The wood stock vanguard’s are very nice looking

Sitting here with my Vanguard 300WBY in my lap now. It isn't near the fit and finish of a Mark V but it shoots good and kicks like a pissed off mule. I'm thinking it'll get Cerakoat, new stock and a Leupold VX5hd 3-15x44 before next season.

I love my Mark V 300. It was my grandfathers for 25 years. It’s a quality rifle, shoots a very capable round with ground thumping stoping power. The draw back is the weight. Fully loaded with the scope, 4 rounds and a nylon quick sling it’s just under 10 lbs. Now that weight with a Boss system makes the recoil very light.

I’ve inherited my father’s Mark V 30-06. I believe it’s from the late 70s or early 80s(he had it as far back as I can remember). It’s a great shooter with 150gr. and nicely checkered wood with the ebony piece on the front of the stock. I’m hoping to lay one down with it before the season ends.

I had a Mark V 300 W. magnum for a while. It was a thunder stomper for sure and heavy as all get out. I had to trade it, because I couldn't find a scope I wanted that would fit the gun and my eyesight. Marks nor Simmons could get a Zeiss or Swarovski to move back far enough on the gun to match my eyesight. I sold it, then bought a Steyr. That was about 20 or so years ago.

Did they try a picatinny mount?

I have a handed down to me Weatherby Mark V .300 Weatherby Magnum that is the 1999 Friends of the NRA Gun of the Year. It has a moose and woodlands scene engraving and 700 total made. I never hunt with it but it will stay in my safe forever since it was given as a gift to Me and my Son.
