Growing up all during deer season my pawpaw would take me my brother and my 2 cousins hunting anytime we wanted to. He would check us out from school when we wanted to hunt even though he knew he was gonna get in trouble with our parents. He taught all of us more than we could ever understand and if he ever told us that someone needed to sit in a particular spot it was a fight fir who got to sit there because he was right. He passed away December 28 of last season from Alzheimer’s and I already knew that I was getting his browning BBR 7mag that he had always took to Colorado hunting. On the day that we buried him I took his rifle and went and sat in his favorite spot just to clear my mind. Then a buck came out and I freaked out and made a bad shot and never recovered him. I was able to take a couple of does with it last year but still wanted a buck. This afternoon I was able to get to a greenfield about 4 and decided to take his rifle since I haven’t all season. Around 450 a small doe a spike and a 4 point came out. A few minutes later the spike runs the last 2 does out of the field then comes back and then he comes back and feeds. Eventually the 2 young bucks leave and just the small doe is feeding about 100 yards away. I’m watching her through the scope because it’s so dark I can barely see her when another deer walks into the scope. I realize it’s a buck and has a decent rack so I immediately knock the safety off and get on him and squeeze the trigger. He dropped right where I shot him and I couldn’t be more happy. Can’t say there wasn’t a tear shed but this is the proudest I’ve been in a long time over a mediocre buck. If someone would post the pictures I would greatly appreciate it
