I thinking about doing a road hunt thread - likely lot if folks don’t know how effective that can be if in right spot of road - lot of big deer die n road

I use the Game Winner pop up s/s that Academy sells. Easy to set up, take down, and move. Inexpensive, durable, and just big enough for one person. I also have a couple of 2 person hub style blinds, but prefer the Game Winner.

Best I have tried is a Barronett blind. Seems to be made heavier and more durable.

That being said, an Ameristep $150 unit has been in the woods on my place for over 2 years now and still stays dry.

There's a couple videos on YouTube that shows you why deer spoke at ground blinds . They set up a camera looking at the blind with a guy in it .

One thing about pop up blinds . I buy 3/8 clear tubing to run the fiberglass rods thru. I'd you don't and the rods break it'll ruin it. I also use a uv protection and sealer spray .

If I had kids yes, but I’d rather sit against a tree or stand like I’m turkey hunting if I’m by myself. I feel restricted in a blind. For kids they’re great.

Thats one I got off Amazon on prime day for 180 bucks. Think its made by thunderbay. It's got see thru fabric on the top half of one side. It's my 1st year using it, so can't give a durability testament yet,but like it so far. The other one I use is a barronnett big cat 350. Easily big enough for 3 adults. Been super durable as well. Even went through a hurricane a couple years ago without any issues. Am noticing the fabric fading on it now but I've got 4 years out of it so I'm pleased

I have 3 out. THe oldest is a game winner and its going to have to be replaced after this season. One I got at TS, says its a 2 person, but its not. I like it because the windows slide open. The other is a pursiut I got at Bass Pro, and its ok. Mainly got it because no one else had any in stock.

The TS one I put up and its close to a feeder, and deer are there all the time.

I also like a ground blind, and love a millenium turkey chair.

I have but very few times from a store bought but many times from one I threw together. Back when I was really mad at them.... my favorite way to hunt was make a chair from rocks and lean against a tree. Usually on the edge of a bench where I could watch a couple below me and one behind me. Killed a bunch doing so.

I just cut some brush and make a blind and I’ve killed a many doing it. Sometimes I’ll find a good spot and just sit down. The one I killed Saturday morning was ten ft away from me. I had to stand up to shoot him because be had circled up hill from me trying to wind me

This is the main way that I hunt now, but I keep one of those roll out cloth blinds in the turkey seat. It weighs next to nothing and easily fits in it when I am carrying the seat on my back. I don't always roll it out and set it up, but it's with me if I think I need it.

This is a pretty comfortable setup and it's miles safer than an old man climbing a tree. Still, I think it is a handicap when compared to a tree stand. It depends on the particular setup, but many times there is enough brush that being on the ground makes it hard to find a clear shot.

Back years ago I read in a Field & Stream about putting out a transistor radio tuned between stations out so that the deer could hear the static noise. Back in the late 90's I found a long road/trail that had deer crossing but never could get them to stop. Tried several things and thought about that and took an old radio I got from work that I could unsquelch and laid it about where they had been crossing an set up maybe 40 yards away. Every deer that came through there stopped to try to figure out where that noise was coming from. Shot a nice rack deer that afternoon. Got to thinking that it might not be legal but when I asked GW he said he wouldn't care just don't make no deer noises over it. Don't know why I never tried it there again. I was sitting on the ground in a blowed down tree top under a poncho at the time.

Odd thing about ground blinds. I have some & I use them occasionally, but in my experience:

- in Alabama, they ALWAYS see it and, while they may not spook from it, they will keep an eye on it & keep their distance.

- in Missouri, you can stand it up in the middle of a bald open cut corn field and they will never even look in its direction

Y’all figured out ways to stop them - I never did. Here is what I do but y’all’s way probably better - I get a shooting rest and comfortable chair and the gun is already on my shoulder waiting pointing down the road - only going to hav 3-8 seconds r less generally- just hav to put cheek on stock and pull trigger after find him n scope - optimized my time
