I've had a one antlered buck at my place for 4 years. He'd be about 18" of he had a full tack.

I had one on camera yesterday that had shed his left side. He was a young 1.5 year old six point and I thought he had broken it fighting. Hard to believe they are dropping already here. This deer was in Lawrence County, close to Bankhead.
I can't stand a thief.

I have a customer with a high fence operation. He has customers coming this week to kill deer. Said he was gona have a hard time getting it done because some of his 200+ inch bucks were running around with one antler. Not uncommon but expensive in his business. So you think "theyll be bigger next year". Problem is a 250 pays the same as a 200 so he will actually lose $600 in the next year feeding these early drop bucks. That is assuming they live and he gets them killed next year.

Is it myth or truth. Ever seen a side of a rack come off after being short or trailing. My customer mentioned above said being run down(malnourished) or an injury(infection) is the main two reasons they drop early

Some indication bucks that have had EHD shed earlier, this maybe related to being run down as well. It takes some hormone release to start the shedding process though so not sure how accurate all of this is.

It takes some hormone release to start the shedding process though so not sure how accurate all of this is. Norther genes shed early. Sick or hurt shed earlier. When the horns are gone, they cant breed any more, no testosterone, balls shrink up, so yes there is a drastic hormone change. A friend of my dads who raised orphaned deer told me when his bucks horns fell off, they would go somewhere and hide for a couple of weeks. He said they acted like they were ashamed of themselves, probably more like scared theyll get killed because their weapons fell off their heads. Nevertheless, its a big deal in the life of a buck when his horns fall off.
