Decided I was done speaking out. My opinion and real world experience Hunting in hot zones is just that.
I hope they get some common sense soon and don’t do anything stupid.

It’s going to happen with or without the hunters. They are gonna slaughter a serious number of deer up there to get a large enough sample. We don’t have to like it. In the mind of the state bureaucracy all deer in Alabama come from deer the state bought and brought in to repopulate the species. It’s a resource owned by the State of Alabama and they will do with it what they decide to do with it.

There are some difficult questions to be considered.
Why would anyone eat a deer that hasn't been tested?
How would you know if it was infected without a test?
Would you eat one that has been tested and the result was positive for cwd?
If your deer tested negative (sent in the head) and you used a processor how would you know it wasn't contaminated during processing?

How do you know the state doesn’t mix up the head during testing? Some of it is done by students at the vet school, and several people have gotten back paper work for other people’s deer, so some of us know even the state has mixed them up.

If on a game breeder’s farm they kill 96 of 100 for their sample size to determine prevalence. Reason suggest they will shoot for similar numbers in the wild population? 96%? They will never shoot this many Wisconsin tried it’s not that easy even with sharp shooters and spot lights. Start worrying when you see them stretch nets between trees and you hear helicopters to run them Into them to break their necks far more efficient way of slaughtering free ranging deer.

They can’t do anything on private land without the land owners permission. State owned lands and WMAs are in trouble most likely.
Subsequent CWD focused surveillance sampling will be conducted on free ranging deer within the CMZ using various methods (e.g., hunter-harvested animals, road kills, controlled harvest, etc.). Whenever possible, sampling will be accomplished using hunter harvested deer during regular deer season and/or through extended special seasons. When necessary, WFF may also collect deer in areas when other means of sample collection are inadequate, but only with permission and full cooperation of private landowners. Landowner permission will be obtained prior to collecting any deer from private property.

The resource is managed by the state, but the resource itself is the property of the licensed hunter depending on public or private property. If the majority of private land owners don’t follow the DCNR guidelines to control CWD then I’m guessing that they will shut the season down in that area of the state.

They should really rethink their approach, learn from other states and work to get community support instead of mandating stuff you would think the government would have learned something during this pandemic. And engage with the public in open debate, I attended several of the CWD meetings, they had and it was clear the mindset was you the peasants will submit from the tone.
Wait til the timber companies and their lobbying agents start loosing lease money and watch what happens, follow the money! Some of the crap Wisconsin pulled to continue to get federal dollars was criminal, biasing sample sets to show greater prevalence, when the numbers were actually going the opposite direction, damn criminal.
