Get a Boat...phfft.. Shouldve stripped down real quick and swam out and grabbed him, it wasnt but 57 degrees...

Reminds me of a deer I got out of a strip mine lake in Illinois. Several hrs after the shot we jumped him and he swam to to other side of a huge strip mine lake and collapsed in some rocks on the bank trying to get out (we thought he was dead)...we stood there about 10 min trying to figure out how to get over there and get him, and that joker stood up...

started wobbling and stood up on his back legs and went over backwards in the water and started swimming back towards us, I sprinted as hard as I could up a hill and back down along the bank to intercept him so i could shoot him again(bow)...his nose kept getting lower and lower and when he got around 2/3rds of the way back it went under...

he started swinging his head side to side trying to stay above the water. I will never forget the sight of his horns thrashing in the water as he gave up the ghost....

everything got still and about that time his front shoulder kinda popped out of the water and it was bobbing like a cork( i think he still had air in one lung) But that didnt last long and he started sinking....

Thats when I heard a big SPLASH...

I looked over and started hollering NO NO dont do it.....There went my best friend in and was swimming towards him, with his dad standing there holding his clothes...

he grabbed the bucks horn and swam him about 70 or 80 yds back to shore....I started stripping off a couple top layers of thermals while he was in the water so he could dry off (25 degrees that day)...I asked him at dinner that nite, ( I bought him a big steak...

) WTH possessed him to do that....He said all the tracking and running up and down the hills I was doing, and the adrenalin going he was worried that if I went in I would drown so, unbeknownst to me he made the decision to go in and get him....Anyway, thats enough about me....

and I hope ya'll get that rascal.....

Its been a good thread so far....
