Watch out if he offers you a hand rolled victory cigar… If BCLC is offering it it’s gonna be a good un!  If he didn’t spend so much annually on fine cigars, good whiskey, the best rifles and scopes, and hookers and blow, he could afford to plant his fields and draw them in close enough for a shot even he could make.

I’ve skimmed a lot of the thread today and haven’t read all of the comments so sorry if I didn’t respond to questions…..Bear with me though and I’ll try to post up the story of what unfolded today as I write it….

I’ll start the story by saying this……we’re pretty sure what originally happened was that the bullet hit a small sapling a few yards in front of the deer and deflected slightly. The buck was quartering away from him and from the best we could tell he looked to be pretty messed up in one of his hind quarters……..Now the rest of the story……

So I got there this morning at around 7:30 and after we ate a biscuit and I gave Brandon a 30 minute introductory tutorial on throw n mow we got started…  ..Otis got on the track pretty good at first but the sign was sparse and there wasnt much scent on the ground for him to pick up. He was really having to dig…. He would progress the line 50-75 yards and then have to loop and search…..progress it 50-75 and then loop and search…..It looked like the buck was moving sporadically from spot to spot instead of traveling a straight line and I think that was what was giving Otis such fits with their being such little scent. It took him a little while but he finally got on a good little run at about the 600 yard mark and he had just gotten out of our site when we heard him cut loose!!!.......YEP!!!.....YEP!!!......YEP!!!!......YEP!!!!.......and just like that it was ON!!!!  The buck got up out of his bed and squared off on Otis and was charging at him when I topped the hill and first saw them……He broke and ran about 20 yards and Otis locked him down again….While this is going on I’m getting my 30-30 off of my back and trying to work my way in for a shot…..We we’re just about in position and ready to tone Otis off him when I’m pretty sure the buck spotted us……He broke and ran with Otis right on his tail trying to lock him down again. After they got a couple hundred yards out though I had to call him back as they crossed the property line……That’s when we pulled back so Brandon could call some folks. More to come…….

Once we got the go ahead from the neighbors we went back to where I had pulled Otis off of the buck. I turned him loose and he quickly picked back up on the buck’s trail. I was beginning to get a little worried because we had gone several hundred more yards past where we pulled off of him earlier without finding him again. I was just about to start getting discouraged when I heard him cut loose again…..YEP!!! YEP!!!!....Yep!!!......
I didn’t realize it but by this time we we’re already right down on the water’s edge….When we caught up to Otis he had the buck bayed in the edge of the lake. He was standing on the bank running back and forth with the buck standing out in chest deep water….No sooner than we saw them though the buck saw us and broke again……But this time I guess he decided he was gonna swim to get away……There wasn’t really anything we could do at that point but watch him…..
I don’t know where this buck thought he was going but he went straight out away from us. He got out to about 200 yards and started to do a couple circles like he wanted to come back but then he would go right back out……That’s when we noticed him start to get a little lower and a little lower until finally we realized…..”Damn!!....He’s going under!!”……and I’ll be damned if he didn’t just disappear out of sight suddenly and sink. That’s when we figured we’d better get a boat.
