Hunting is nothing more that a odds game . More you go better the odds

If the wind is bad don't stay home go to a good trail and watch for that roaming buck that may cross your land once a season. . At times I think people look for a reason to stay home.

To windy , go set on the ground .

To rainy , take a Hunting blind set on the ground . Amazing how bucks will pop out after a heavy rain

Being to hot aint a good reason either I've seen deer eating persimmons at 2;00 when it was a heat index of 105.

I never see old mature deer during the rut. I see tons of 1, 2, and 3 yr olds being stupid. The older deer, at least on our place vanish (get in a thick area with a doe) for 5 or so days. Kill them right before and right after peak breeding. Got a 4 yr old we are wanting to kill and today is the first day he has shown up in 6 days, started to think he was dead.

Try hunting more in cold weather. grin

I would but then I dont even see does or anything since they lock down especially in the mornings.

Lot of variables go in the mix as far as the rut. Trying to find a place with different age class deer to see the rut really happen is the hard part. An area I hunted growing up people just didn't let deer grow. On one 400 acre tract that family for years never shot a doe, but if it was legal antler wise it went down. The adjacent tract the guy said he couldn't shoot enough deer for his family, they lived off venison. One year I fed the deer all season long and hunted on occasion on the adjacent land. Very little pressure on the deer from me. Did my deer sightings go up, no, should they have, yes. The only buck deer I saw that season on the 120 acre tract was two small bucks that look like twins born a little late. They were small at the beginning of the season, but gained weight quick over the next four months. Still can't believe those two made it all season. I know they did not make it until the next year. If I was to hunt that property today I would not wait on a buck, it would be a big enough deer for the table. You can't shoot bucks if they don't come on the place you are hunting, rut or no rut! That is one reason a lot of people will never see a long rut, there just are not enough deer.

Funny how the folks that hunt the most on the best properties are the ones that consistently kill big deer.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.
