Anyone have any experience with one on a long gun other than a .22? Can you fab one for a shotgun? Size, weight, costs after you go through all legal paperwork, etc... Any experience you have, please share. Thanks

I've shot a Ruger 243 with a silencer. It worked pretty good.

from what I've heard from a friend, it will make a centerfire sound about like a standard 22lr.

In supersonic rounds, the "sonic" boom is as loud, or nearly as loud, as the powder muzzle blast. The sonic boom, or "crack", cannot be suppressed.

Very few "magnum" type calibers can be suppressed more than minute amounts.

Pistols and slower-heavier rifle bullets react the best with suppressors.

In other words, forget suppressing a .300 Weatherby Magnum.

the 243 I shot was loaded with 70gr HPs at 1100fps, sounded like a cb cap 22 round. I believe it would kill a deer with a head shot.

The AG Feds use silenced 308s loaded sub-sonic for deer shooting at night, head shots mostly.

For a rifle round, look at the 300 Blackout.

However, be aware that use of suppressors for hunting is ILLEGAL according to current AL state law.

$200 Tax Stamp and 6-month approval process via a Form 4 or Form 1 submitted to the BATFE, on top of the cost of the suppressor.

If you pass the background check to own a handgun, then you can pass the background check to own a suppressor, machine gun, or destructive device. Why in the WORLD you can get approved on a firearm in under 2-min but it takes 6-months to do the same thing for the "other" items is a mystery to me...

I really wish they were legal for hunting. I have only hunted two years And exposure to only 4 rifle shots unprotected/Unsuppressed has caused noticeable ringing in my ears. If muzzle blast could be mitagated to some degree I surely would not have sustained damage this quickly

Just imagine how much less hearing damage there would be in the hunting community if folks just used suppressors as a matter of course through their hunting careers? I wonder if it would be possible to get a law passed to allow this?

Some states allow suppressors for hunting. My list may not be spot on but, OK, TX, TN, AZ and I believe GA now allow hunting with suppressors. Alabama finally got SBRs and SBSs legalized a little over a year ago. We are so far behind the times that if everybody stopped and waited we still wouldn't catch up.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

Supressors are a poachers very best friend. Not only do they supress the muzzle blast somewhat but they, more importantly, mask the direction of a gun shot by the human ear to the point that it's almost impossible to detect where the shot came from and/or the distance away.

If you are worried about your hearing while hunting, buy a pair of earplugs and stick them just in before shooting. It's really not that difficult.

Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it.

my buddy just sent off about a month ago for a class 3 cert. for his 10inch AR15 build. He ordered the suppressor for it (1100) with the paperwork.
