I understand the transfer portal, coaches leave, why not players. I don’t understand letting them play in a bowl game or even travel with the team after they declare for the portal. Why give them a free trip and an ability to showcase their talents? You need to hit the road, do not pass go, do not collect anything more from the university except an ability to go to class.

There are a couple of things about the portal that I don't understand - and perhaps I am wrong in my assumptions, AND since I don't understand the rules - I will certainly share my opinion(s).

1. IMO - if a player enters the portal, I believe they should IMMEDIATELY forfeit ALL benefits (room/board, scholarship, stipend funds,...etc.) from the university and be removed from the athletic facility.
2. IMO - if a player enters the portal, they DO NOT have the option to change their mind, it would be at the discretion of the university as to the status of the player.
3. IMO - I believe the NCAA should reinstate the "sit out 1-year and forfeit that year of eligibility'.

They should keep it as is, but make a rule that a player can only transfer out of conference.

Like booger McFarland said, a kid shouldn’t commit to a coach, they should commit to a university.

What if saban had taken the LSU job recently and half of bamas roster went with him to LSU. That shouldn’t be allowed to happen. What’s already happening is kids don’t like the new coach, so they just leave.

Now that they’re getting paid, it’s a job. My boss got fired 18 years ago and I couldn’t just make a phone call to transfer to another division because I didn’t want to work for the guy they brought in.

After portal entry a player is allowed to return to original school. You cut a player for entering portal you may as well quit cause no player would sign if that your policy. Not to *ding* on you Davy (Great name!) But high morals and ethics dont win ballgames it's the Jimmy's& Joe's that do that. I'm an Alabama but do I believe Saban and staff don't do everything possible to not just get but Keep those 5 stars? Absolutely they do just like every other school not named Vanderbilt or those Ivy leaguers. If a kid is a difference maker are we fans naive to think he's not turotured by a little&big sister and given keys to every house on sorority row or list of numbers to call for a free meal from the back door of a dozen restaurants? I think 1.4% of college players make it past the first NFL contract so it evens out like life always does.

I wasn’t necessarily talking about cutting everything, it is more about playing time and traveling to a bowl. I’m watching a game where a receiver is “testing the portal” while playing in his team’s bowl game.

When it first came out - Saban and other coaches hated it

Saban and others along w X athletes pointed out - it does not teach players to work thru tuff situations - my life often gets tuff - I can’t just go portal - u work thru - not geared toward teaching - It is geared toward the player and not team.

There instances where it really good - a case like Jalen Hurts - I really like it - but if ball gets tuff and grass May just possibly be greener - suck it up and plow thru it - may learn a life lesson - instead of - this was not just perfect - I gone take my toys and leave

They should not allow kids to take any more NIL deals if they decide to transfer. End the free agency.

This transfer portal thing will settle out soon, especially for the mediocre players that most who enter are. Fewer than half who place their names in the portal receive scholarship offers.

To the folks saying: "Just tough it out." or "You shouldn't be able to leave if you don't like the coach."

Question: If you had a job and you hated your situation, or hated your boss, or whatever... Should you be banned from leaving that job?

How is that any different?

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the transfer portal either, but I'm 60 years old and I just don't like change, but things change and we just need to accept it or stay pissed off for the rest of our lives.

I would like to see it where they can't transfer in the same conference. I have a no compete clause at work, should be something like that for the transfers.

Look at it this way....

You typically transfer out because it has been discovered you suck by coaches, fans, fellow players. Realizing your now second place to a benchwarmer is a life lesson in humility.

Yep, Saban spoke against it & ask if this is really what we want college football to be? Bama will lose some good players but gain some great players. This & NIL sure changed the game as we knew it.

I don't mind a kid leaving, it happens, coaches leave, they want playing time, etc. I just don't get letting them go on a bowl trip and play in the game if they have given their intent to get into the portal. Let another player have that spot on the field and show what he can do, or let a player that is deserving get to take a trip with the team.

This needs to turn into minors for the NFL. They need a defined “free agency/transfer portal” period where kids can put their name out there and see if they get picked up by anybody. Kids who aren’t acting right should be cut by their college teams and that will affect their NIL money. I think it can actually be turned into an incentive for acting right. Play stupid games, lose your NIL money potentially

I don't think many that have entered the portal are playing in bowls; with the new early signing date, most have opted out or already picked a new destination. They need to make a decision on their new team because there are way more players in the portal than scholarships available. Many that had a scholly , are going to end up on the outside looking in.

Do you think most of these players already have an offer on the table before they enter the portal? Seems like it would stupid to enter and no idea if you might find somewhere to land.

What will this mean for college football?....will that even the playing field so to speak? some of these 4 and 5 star players not wanting to set the bench and transferring to lesser schools possibly for more playing time
