My son's insist on using shampoo/body wash that is pretty pungent. Even the scent killer shampoo and body wash doesn't mask it.

Has anyone found something that works? I've even take him home and washed his hair in scent killer soap and baking soda and let it sit for a while.

I realize the goal of taking your children hunting is spending time with them it does piss me off that I'm sitting next to a kid who has all but made sure any deer that is close by isn't going to show itself.

Not to mention I hate the smell of it.

They hav all this new sent crusher machine and Ozonics - I hav not spent anything on it

Hav had vanilla extract soliton work some - heard a lot of people swat by nose jammer (also has vanilla smell) but I hav been busted w that too.

You can bathe with all the scent killer stuff available then spray down with a gallon of vanilla and a deer will still wind you.

Yep, gotta stay down wind of the deer to “eliminate” it.

In my experience if a deer is down wind of you a deer can smell you regardless of what you’ve done to prevent it. But not all deer react to human scent to the same degree

I heard that if you strap on an Ozonics and wear a HECS suit you can just walk into the woods and slap the biggest buck on the azz before you shoot him.

Any deodorizing prep you can do will help but you’ll never defeat a deers nose

Nothing will help. I used to buy into all that stuff. Just play the wind and you'll see deer.

Most definitely hunt with wind in your face. On a side note I have heard people using smoke as a cover scent but nothing will fool a deers nose to any human trace.

I will ALWAYS play the wind, but I spent $40 and built my own ozone tote, it beats the heck out of washing my clothes all the time.

A friend of mine has specially trained dogs that track down escaped convicts. (He even has a few buckshot imbedded in his torso as a reminder of his job)! He said as a test, they took men and bathed them in scent blocker and then dressed them in carbon suits and covered every part of their body. He said the men then were asked to take a long trek through the woods and hide. He said the dogs trailed them up like they had no scent cover on. I guess this would be the same for a deer being able to smell a human.

Not only do deer have stronger noses, but they also have more brain matter dedicated to analyzing scent. They can detect faint odors and not get washed out by stronger smells. Deer will still smell you with any scent cover, but some of them will risk human stink for delicious vanilla stink.

Most scent blockers are antimicrobial sprays. This will reduce the odor coming off of your clothes as they get dirty. This could also be achieved by wearing clean clothes and preventing sweat. Deer will still be able to smell you, but it could possibly be enough to get them within range, but probably not.

I used to use scent blocker, and don't anymore. I get winded just as easily as I used to. I've also had deer come right up my scent trail after living in my truck for a few days, I was ripe. Some deer don't respond to scent normally. Just like how some people see a city block being burned down as a peaceful protest.

Hunt the wind and choose your way in carefully. In my experience, deer will bed in view or down wind of common entry points. These products may give you a slight advantage, but skill cannot be purchased.

I’m not doing it anymore ! It was ruining the fun of hunting , I just hunt the wind , I was sick of getting up an hour earlier to shower , sick of being ocd and not wearing clothes that I was hunting in to the hunting land and changing , sick of recharging my scent lock suit , sick of deodorizing vehicles , sick of buying ineffective crap to give me an edge . I’ve killed every deer that I have mounted not worrying about scent . Just hunt the wind . I also don’t buy any kind of deer sent or estrus anymore . I stay away from scrapes to get close enough to contaminate them and just hunt them . Don’t let the prep work of being scent free ruin the hunting experience of somebody . One guy who kills a good one every year with us smokes in the stand and while I think that’s nuts a lot can be learned from it . Since I started learning about thermals it’s prob made me a better hunter .

And the scent control market has made a fortune - i spent too much on it over the years for almost no results 🤣 done w it now

deers nose is amazing - I have been hunting a large cutover and see a deer from over 300 yards away and when it hits my sent line - snort within a few seconds and I am thinking - what the heck - i still get pissed off every time I hear a snort

I try my best to stay scent free (i use a lot of pine needles it's free) because hunting the WIND can be tuff when you're hunting the Bama woods. This year has been especially hard...

Ground scent is about all I worry about “rubber boots”. While hunting try to hunt high on mtn for a consistent wind.

That crap is all money making stuff, I wash my hunting cloths in a unscented detergent, and wear rubber boots. Nothing else, if the wind is blowing in the direction the deer is, It’s going to smell you. Period No sense in spraying all that useless scent killer all over yourself
