3D Shoot on October 2nd to be held at Camp ToknowHim in Pisgah, AL.

3D shoot will consist of shooting two 15 target rounds. There will be four classes of shooters - cub, women/youth, traditional, and bowhunter. Winer from each class will have the highest total score after two rounds and receive a free hunt for two at Camp ToknowHim this year.

Will also have two other events - Robin Hood Tournament and a Bison Shoot. The Robin Hood event will be shots taken at progressively longer distances at a field target until a winner is determined. The Bison Shoot will consist of archers shooting at a 3D bison from the top of a 45 foot tower. Each winner of these events will receive a free hunt for two this year at Camp ToknowHim.

Entry is $50 per person. This includes lunch and entry into each event. If you pre-register through email prior to 9/25 the cost is only $25 per person.

Hey guys - I hope you both come! I think we're gonna have a great event and I look forward to seeing who all turns out.

We're using the BHA tournament rules. I'm including a link to the BHA website if you're not familiar with it. Not all of the rules apply to us (since we're new and getting established) but the list is pretty comprehensive and covers what we need.

Will they have an elavator to get me to the top of the 45' tower?

Ha ha no you get to climb that... It's 4 telephone poles with a platform at the top. You'll wear a harness and climb the metal steps (similar to tree steps) to the top. Once you step onto the platform your harness will be clipped into what is called a static line - a steel cable secured between two of the poles. From there you'll be able to pull your bow up, nock an arrow and take a shot. There will be 3 guys working the event to make it work - one belaying shooters from the ground, one loading your bow onto the tow line, and one at the top of the platform to help with clipping you in and.

It may seem a little crazy but I think people will really enjoy it. The tower is used for the zip line at the camp. Here is a picture of it in action - scroll down to the middle row of pictures and you'll see the tower: Outdoor Activities Page

Here are the rules and equipment limitations for the 3D shoot at camp toknowhim:

A) Illegal Equipment
a. Crossbows
b. Laser Sights
c. Range Finders
d. Any sight reference in the sight window for Traditional Classes Equipment
a. Bows
i. Any manufactured bow legal (except crossbow) in the State of Alabama for hunting may be used in all divisions. (Except the Traditional Class, which must use recurve or longbows).
ii. Maximum speed in all classes to be a maximum of 290 fps (feet per second) with a 3% variance.
b. Sights
i. Sights with fixed pins, beads or cross hairs may be used in the Bowhunter Division.
ii. Fixed Pin sights may not be moved or adjusted during the tournament, except for equipment failure.
iii. Sights may not have range finding devices.
iv. Archers shooting with a moveable sight may shoot in the Bowhunter, Traditional, Women�s Bowhunter, Youth, and Cub Divisions
c. Stabilizers
i. Stabilizers may be used on all bows (except recurves and longbows).
ii. Bowhunter and Women�s Bowhunter, Divisions shall not be more than 12" in length from its tip to the bow including extensions, weights and coupling devices.
iii. Youth and Cub Divisions may shoot any type or length.

d. Release Aids
i. May be used in all Divisions (except Traditional).
ii. Must be those legal for hunting in Alabama.

e. Other Legal Equipment
i. Leveling devices
ii. Lighted sights
iii. Camo patterns on sight window of the bow
iv. Overdraws
v. Magnifying sights in all Divisions where sights are legal (except Bowhunter Divisions)
vi. Binoculars

C) All Other Equipment � All other equipment not covered above must be approved by the Tournament Host before beginning the tournament for judgment of legality.

D) Equipment Failure Procedure - The shooter will be allowed to replace or repair equipment, shoot a few arrows in the practice area, and then be allowed to resume shooting. The shooters group will wait for the shooter to return. A maximum of 30 minutes will be allowed for replacement or repair. Shooters may only use this rule once per tournament.

E) Divisions, Range and Targets:
a. The distance from the shooting stake to the target shall be unknown.
i. MEN�S BH - ONE RED SHOOTING STAKE: Maximum (45) yards
ii. WOMEN�S BH - ONE GREEN SHOOTING STAKE: Maximum (35) yards
iii. TRADITIONAL - ONE BLUE SHOOTING STAKE: Maximum (30) yards
iv. YOUTH - YELLOW SHOOTING STAKE: Maximum (25) yards
v. CUB - ONE WHITE SHOOTING STAKE: Maximum (15) yards
b. The range will be laid out to eliminate the possibility of a "wild arrow" hitting anyone on a marked trail or behind any other target.
c. A complete scoring round shall consist of fifteen (15) targets. Two scoring rounds will be shot to determine the tournament winner in each division.
d. All targets shall be 3D animal targets except for the field target in the Robin Hood Event.
e. Targets shall be placed to resemble normal hunting conditions with as little disturbance as possible to the undergrowth and cover.
f. There shall be no moving targets.
g. Shots shall be fair to all shooters (right or left handed, short or tall, etc)
h. Targets shall be set so they do not move or come loose during the tournament. If they do, shooters may cease shooting and seek help from the Tournament Host.
i. Targets shall not be placed at extreme angles which put the kill zones in unrealistic positions.
j. A practice range shall be provided. If interested in using the practice range, archers are encouraged to bring their own block or similar target as we have limited targets.
k. Targets shall have unmarked "McKenzie like" kills.
l. Shooters may not shoot in more than one division.

G) Age Groups
a. Men and Women: Age 17 or older.
b. Youth: Age 12-16. Male and Female to compete together. Youth may volunteer for appropriate adult division.
c. Cubs: Age 6-11. Male and Female to compete together.
d. The shooters� age for the entire year is determined by their age as of the 2010 State Championship.
H) Divisions of Shooting
a. Men�s Bowhunter - Red Stake. Fixed pins and movable sights. Stabilizer (12" or shorter).
b. Women�s Bowhunter � Green Stake. Fixed Pins and movable sights. Stabilizer (12� or shorter).
c. Traditional - Blue Stake. Must use recurve or longbow (no compound). No sights, sight related equipment, sight reference or release aid. Shooter must hold string with fingers. Tab or glove O.K.
d. Youth � Yellow Stake. Shoot what you bring.
e. Cubs - White Stake. Shoot what you bring.

I) Scoring
a. One arrow shall be shot at each target.
b. Scoring of an arrows shall be as follows:
i. If the arrow is touching or inside the 12 ring, it will score 12 points.
ii. If the arrow is touching or inside the 10 ring, it will score 10 points
iii. If the arrow is touching or inside the 8 ring, it will score 8 points.
iv. If the arrow penetrates any other part of the animal, it will score 5 points.
v. If the arrow misses completely or penetrates a non-animal part of the target, it will score zero (0).
vi. If the arrow is observed to pass through or bounce out of the target, it will count as observed of everyone in the group agrees, excluding the shooter. If everyone in the group does not agree, the arrow is dead and another must be shot.
vii. The arrow must be in the target to score (expect for a pass through). Glance off arrows score zero (0).
viii. On short yardage targets (under 10 yards), after two shooters have shot, their arrow may be scored and pulled in order to prevent other arrows from possibly glancing off into a lower scoring area. Arrows must be scored before being pulled from the targets.

J) Grouping
a. No more than five (5) shooters to a group, with a Group A and B if necessary.
b. Each person must shoot in their group as assigned.
c. Once a group arrives at the target and the target is clear, the first shooter has two (2) minutes at the stake to shoot. Each shooter is in the "On Deck Circle" (located 1-2 yards behind the shooter stake) has one (1) minute to shoot his/her arrow.
d. Groups will consist of members of the same division, when possible.
e. Juniors will shoot with adult supervision. Youth and Cubs must be with one of his/her parents or someone who will be responsible for the youth or cub.
f. Each group will consist of shooters from various Chapters as much as possible (i.e., no one group will consist of all members from one Chapter).
g. The Host Chapter will appoint group captains whose responsibilities include:
i. Scoring of arrows before they are pulled from the target and overall shooting.
ii. To observe all arrows as they are shot to determine if the hit, miss, shoot through, glance off, or bounce out of the target.
iii. To establish the shooting order of the group.
iv. To make sure the rules are followed by the group.
v. To make sure safety rule are observed by the group.
vi. To settle minor disputes which may arise within the group.
vii. To make sure each target is left in the same position as found and to reset the target if necessary.

K) Shooting Rules
a. Some part of the shooters body must touch the shooting stake.
b. The shooter may stand in any direction form the stake.
c. The shooter shall not break or remove any vegetation from around the shooting stake.
d. In the case of an arrow being dropped or falling, if a shooter can reach his/her arrow while still having one foot on his/her designated stake, he/she may re-do the shot. If the arrow is out of reach in any other circumstance it is considered a shot.
e. No coaching or discussion of the distance before the target is shot.
L) Winners and Prizes
a. There will be one winner recognized from each division in the 3D tournament
b. There will be one winner recognized in the Robin Hood Event
c. There will be one winner recognized in the Bison Shoot
d. The winners of the 3D tournament shall each receive a free bow hunt for two at Camp ToknowHim this fall AND a portion of the entry fees (portion based on the number of participants and will be determined the morning of the event).
e. The winners of the Robin Hood Event and the Bison Shoot shall each receive a free bow hunt for two at Camp ToknowHim this fall.

What is the starting time?

Registration will be at 9:00 am Saturday morning. The first round of the shoot will begin at 10:00 am.
