I’m going to a rather “uppety” Christmas party Friday night. Today I’ll go to the liquor store and buy 2 bottles of scotch, a nice 18+ year-old bottle and a much cheaper 10 y.o. bottle of single malt. I will come home and pour the nice bottle into my decanter and the pour the cheap stuff into the expensive bottle. I will take the cheap stuff in the expensive bottle with me Friday night as a gift for the host (a friend of mine) and I’ll be greeted with the customary “Oh you shouldn’t have! Just take in there and sit it on the bar…” I then just socialize and enjoy the show, I’ll witness several folks partaking of the “fine scotch” and my friend telling each of them that I brought the nice bottle of scotch, they’ll all comment on how smooth it is and make statements such as “you can’t hide money”, etc. it works every year. Merry Christmas y’all. And what do you do about the broken seal on the bottle??

Rich folk ain’t got time to worry…they just assume somebody on their payroll already popped the seal for them

ShowN’Tail bartender buddy of mine in Panama always put Mr. Boston in the Grey Goose AND Absolut bottles every dang day. Allen the owner couldn’t care less. Both are RIP now, Allen was murdered, my friend Roy hanged himself and the hoe-house burned long ago. The News Herald ran all 3 stories as they occurred, archives might still have them.

Merry Christmas y’all. And what do you do about the broken seal on the bottle?? The very same thing that I did last year. Carefully cut it with my pocket knife and when I put the cork back in I simply line the seal back up. When I arrive at my friend’s house I have it in the paper sack that was provided by the liquor store, I simply grab the neck of the bottle and lift it up out of the sack to show my friend. He’s looking at the label, it’s full, and he has no reason to suspect that I’ve replaced it with cheaper scotch. He doesn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. If I were to wrap it up and give it away as a gift, the first thing they would notice would be the broken seal.

Can’t give my spot away but I will say December 14th there will be a big shipment of weller, Blanton’s, etc
If you aren't traveling far then it would have to be a store in Auburn, Opelika, Montgomery or Pike Road if the delivery is on that date.

I've got a 1/2 bottle sitting on my shelf. No better than any of 50 different ones I've drank. I keep it there for special occasions, but really it's not all that great.

To the OP, I have no idea where to get any Blanton’s but it looks like you got fixed up. 👍
I have no opinion on what you like to drink. Your money, your choice. Just don’t tell me you drive a Ford.🤠

I have several on the counter in my kitchen including half a bottle of Blantons. It is very much an individual taste preference. Blantons is good but there are others as good or better that are easier to come by. My son got a bottle of Weller, (wheated bourbon), for me for my birthday. It is also from Buffalo Trace and an allocation bourbon in Alabama. I prefer it to Blantons. Four Roses single barrel is also better to me than Blantons. David

I just want a bottle. The only time I’ve had it was out of a red solo cup on ice with Col. Tom Kelly cracking the seal and doing the pour at his apartment in Spanish Fort. I’ll never forget him saying as he opened the bottle: “I’m not rich but I have a few rich friends and one of they gave me this. So lets open it!”
Whenever I drink it, I’m gonna think about that Sunday afternoon when he signed my 2nd edition “The Tenth Legion” book. We toasted to the wild turkey and a new friendship.
