The government just bought 13 million dollars of smallpox vaccines today too??? I’m guessing it’s their backup plan. Many people have heard that smallpox was eradicated decades ago. This was true for the U.S., Canada, most of Europe etc because of nearly mandatory (effective) vaccine use. Where it wasn’t eradicated were places such as Africa and Central America. With the drastic increase in numbers of invaders from these areas moving into American cities, coupled with the relaxed standards on childhood vaccine requirements, smallpox has regained a foothold in certain parts of the country. New York City was having a large outbreak among school age children several years ago. Another couple million infectious migrants isn’t likely to help the public health situation.
