Always liked GM trucks. But I'm looking at a 2012 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It has 140k miles. Any of you guys be scared of an Ecoboost with that many miles? Amy tips to look/ listen for while checking it out?

The question isn't if that ecoboost will crap out, but when. Friend has to have his rebuilt at just over 100K miles.

I put 150,000 on two of them with no issues.

Stay away from it too many inherit problems from throttle bodies to intercoolers to wiring and the bad part is it seems Ford is clueless on what it takes to fix the issues. I have a 2015 that has been in the shop for five months

I would avoid. Go with the 5.0 This....the 5.0 and 6spd transmission seems to be a winning combination. I've heard less-than-great things about the newer 10spd, but I don't think they introduced those until like 2017

I had nothing but trouble out of the 5.0. No problems with the 2.7 or 3.5. New 3.5 is getting 18mpg around town, 2.7 only got 16 mpg, 5.0 got 14

Love my 2016 5.0, but it went back to the dealership two weeks ago for its second torque converter issue in 10k miles. Been sitting there for two weeks and they haven't touched it. Last I heard it was on a rollback heading for the dealership in prattville to see if they can fix it. I am about as loyal a Ford guy as they come, but I am so pissed about it I am looking at trading it in on a 2500 AT4 gas burner from the dealer here.
As for the original question, the early ecoboosts had some cam phaser quality control issues. My 2013 with 90K starting rattling every morning when I cranked it up, that was when I traded it in on the 5.0 Also where some issues with condensation in the intercooler, sucking water and causing misfires on hard acceleration. Being direct injection, they may have issues with carbon build up in the back of the intake valves that can lead to trouble.

I bought a used one with 33,000 miles on it. The price was right. It had throttle body issues intermittently. I got mad and stomped the accelerator and let off at about 100 mph. Haven't had an issue with the truck since. Not sure what happened but it fixed the throttle body issue. Great riding truck with good gas mileage and pulls like a champ. MPH drops drastically when pulling but it pulls well.

I have a 2013 with 147k miles. No issues except for a coil pack went out last week.

I saw alot of talk about putting a catch can on the ecoboost engines. I think that has to do with the really thin oil they run now days, and the low tension rings they run to reduce friction. Rather than suck the oil back into the intake system, the catch can will stop it.

I ran a catch can on mine. Caught a lot of nasty stuff. I was shocked when you had me empty it at a gas station one day. Was like a watery chocolate frosty from Wendy’s

My 2016 F150 with a 3.5 Ecoboost has been flawless. I have 154,000 miles on it and have owned it since new. I have not tuned it and done any performance upgrades, so that may be in my favor. You'll hear and read about timing chain and cam phaser issues on them, but I haven't had it on mine. I drive it sanely and don't abuse it, and maintain it properly. I am not planning on getting rid of it any time soon either.

Got a 2014 with 70,000 miles. All I have done is change the oil and filter and air filter. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I had replaced two throttle bodies in my 2014 King Ranch and decided to sell it. I never have went back and researched what issues were causing them to fail. When I bought the truck I installed the catch-can and all of that jazz.
The truck was fund to drive and would get up and go better than any truck I’ve drove
