US Steel doesn't own any coal mines now. They sold their mine to some of those rich investors I've referred to and the mine is still in operation with a workforce that hasn't been destroyed.

TCI/US Steel owned the mine for decades and since the mine sold it has changed hands numerous times. It isn't connected to the mines in Brookwood that we're talking about except for being in the same coal seam. The mine is still operating. The union hasn't destroyed it.
Not for lack of trying I assure you. They certainly did not sell Oak Grove to rich investors. I can promise you that.

I was close enough to know that what Walter Industries did to all employees when they declared bankruptcy was a travesty. Non-union and union employees alike lost pensions, retirements and years of service. At the time coal prices were garbage and had not someone stepped in to take over, the mines would have closed and the town of Brookwood would have suffered as a result since they are closely tied to one another. So be careful about your talk about rich investors.
The union did take concessions that both parties agreed to but no where in that agreement did it say that once the Company began to perform better financially, then the union would go back to where they were. Perhaps that should have been in the labor agreement….

I’ll provide some additional facts for you.
The coal industry in this state is not what it used to be 10 years ago much less 30.
Coal jobs are NOT in high demand
The UMWA has contracts in place at the 2 closest competitor mines, including a brand new contract at one negotiated while the strike was going on. What made them agree to terms at this locations but not Warrior Met? Maybe you should find out what they got and are working while others are striking and getting nothing.
You WILL NEVER recoup the lost earnings that you have missed while being out on strike.
Union leadership has not missed a check while you have been out of work. (Yours and others dues money at work)
Others are willing to work for what you thought was bad enough to strike over, until that supply dries up you better be in for the long haul.
You’re 7 months in with no ongoing discussions towards a solution. That should tell you something.
Coal prices are rebounding and they are not going to stop mining because of a strike.

May be time for those involved to take a good look at what their UMWA brothers/sisters have agreed to at the other mines and work towards an agreement that resembles those because in the end that is who you will be competing against not Warrior Met Mgt. Peabody and Murray will gladly produce and sell coal to those who want it and those who can’t will be left behind.

257 are you part of the NFU (National Farmers Union)? Mexicans can farm cheaper than you. All it would take is some conglomerate to purchase the land and take over to put you out of business. It would look like the 70’s - 80’s with all of the farms being auctioned off and the families being bankrupt... but wait that’s what it appears or some say xiden is doing to the housing. Put people out of work and take their houses. If everyone stands up to the government then they become a Union fighting for a cause.

All of you people are eager to throw stones at unions but everyone is part of a Union of some sort. Weather it’s a business, marital, or religious union. All unions work towards a better, cohesive, productive and profitable partnership for all involved. That’s what a union is. Give and take. Both sides know what is allowed to give up and to ask for. Liberal education has taught against unions and negotiations for at least 50yrs and look where it has gotten this once great nation. Big business and big government rules. If anyone says they are not a part of a union they are complete liars and hypocrites. Everyone is part of some sort of a union. FAMILY.

Comparing labor unions to marriage and family is about the farthest stretch I’ve seen in a very long time, like comparing apples and pogo sticks.

I will say this though, if I didn’t like the performance of my union marriage partner and I brought in non-union help, my car windows would probably get broken like is happening at Brookwood. grin

Is this what they tell you at your first union meeting or something? Like the pledge of allegiance for all union members? That seems like something pulled from a pro-union brochure, good grief.

Surely you don’t believe what you just typed. If you do you have been completely brainwashed lol. Liberal educators are very PRO union. A majority of unions support the Democratic Party. Notice I didn’t say union members. Trump was one of the FEW republican presidential candidates to even remotely sway unions to the republican side of things. However most heavy union states supported Biden in the last election. Here’s one of many articles related to the UMWA.

https://www.daily-journal.com/opini...ff47f32-a6e3-11eb-afd4-239907efd3a8.html

Saying “liberal educators teach against unions or negotiations” is just flat out wrong. That being said pretty much ALL politicians on both sides of the fence support big business and big government. Why???, because it makes them richer and gives them more control. The ONLY thing politicians at the federal level worry about is stealing/making more money and staying in office.

While the definition of a marriage is “ formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship” it is far from the definition of a labor union which is “ an organization of workers formed to protect the rights and interests of its members.” Saying a marriage, or family is comparable to a labor union is asinine. I am curious however at how you came up with what you wrote.
