I need some learning.

I’m finishing out around 1500sqft of my basement and was going to have a mini split installed for hvac and dehumidification.

Anyone else done this or have any opinions/recommendations on the unit

Jbatey who is you want an opinion from and depending on where you're located, to install it.

Though generally Daiken and Mitshubishi are generally considered the best.

I put a single zone 2 ton Mitsubishi in my newly finished basement, about 1000ft, and its plenty.

I’m about half underground and it does very well.

Buddy of mine has one in a garage/mother in law type deal and it has me thinking about it myself. He bought one with multiple “heads”? So he can add more units later. Do your research before you pick a brand. He didn’t want Mitsubishi. Not sure why.

That’s good they send them precharged now. I bought and installed one myself in 2008 and they weren’t precharged. Took me forever to find someone that would charge it.

I ran into an issue with mine two yrs ago and couldn’t find any service co (local) that would touch it. They all wanted to sell me a new one for 5K.

There's all kinds of cheap knockoff residential mini-splits. Some of them are designed to be installed by homeowners.

We put in a bunch of mini-splits and VRF's every year in commercial spaces. From my viewpoint, Mitsubishi/Trane is still the gold standard. Lennox, Toshiba, Carrier are all basically the same units. LG makes a pretty good system. Any of those are fine. I've not been pleased with Daikin.

Nowadays, Nearly all 1 to 1 mini-splits come pre-charged up to a certain length of line-set.

Great option for your application.

As stated above, Mitsubishi/Trane,Carrier/Bryant, Fujitsu are some of the more popular and quality ones.

I’ve worked on about any make and model and would recommend any of the above. Currently for the past year we’ve been installing Bryant mini splits. We’ve had great success and zero issues. Have installed several multi zone heat pumps as well as single zone heat pumps.

What area of N.AL are you located?

I was told a couple of days ago that mini splits are getting in short supply and it may take 3-4 months to get some of them.

Depends on the manufacturer. Trane has plenty of stock on Mitsubishi. Carrier quoted me 17 weeks for a mini split last week through a national account.

It is not just mini splits. HVAC equipment shortages are quickly becoming a big problem across all manufacturers. 21 percent price increases this year and was told today to expect 10 to 12 percent increase Jan 1st for Carrier/Bryant. LETS GO BRANDON

We have a Diakin we heat and cool a 750 square foot addition. I’m not sure what BTU. Works great. We do run ceiling fans to help move air. Remember it has directional vents for air. I wish we would of centered it on a wall. We went toward one side of a 30 ft wall.

Damn. I know we’ve been hit a few times already through our main supplier for 3-5% every few months this year. I haven’t heard about another increase but wouldn’t surprise me. Who do you use for your carrier or Bryant?

I just rebid a job today that blew the budget on the original design 5 weeks ago. Originally it had 175tons of package units and 11 mini splits. They shaved the building size down a good bit, and the design today only had 147.5tons of package units, 10 mini-splits, and a 3 circuit unit.

Should have saved a good bit off the equipment package right? Wrong…… $38k increase……

We are located on the coast. 6.5 percent in January and June, 8 percent in September. 16 SEER single and 2 stage equipment pretty much does not exist. 5 stage and variable becoming scarce.

Yea we had a 16 2 stage Bryant a month ago that couldn’t get filled. They “upgraded” us to the communicating 16…. But the control was on back order. SMH.. luckily it came on in time for the job…. Its crazy out there. I have a job to price tomorrow for a variable speed or 2 stage. Better call my supplier before I even go. May no have an option but to go basic or a different brand.

Got a Trane rooftop to change next week and there was like 10-12 nationally at the time we ordered
