Why waste money on diesel when water is a very effective carrier with the Gly+imazapyr mix. You can only kill it so dead I only use about a quart per tank. I’ve had better luck doing that and re-growth seems to be less than just a straight gly&arsenal mix. I was in the program with Florida Forestry and the forester who came to inspect for payment said she hadn’t seen anyone get rid of it as quick as I did. Said whatever I was doing to keep doing it. That's great info. Are you using diesel and a surfactant both in the tank? I put a surfactant in the tank I sprayed, but I didn't think of adding diesel to it. It seems from what I've been able to find out that Cogongrass is a big problem in south AL and FL. Is that because it came off the boat there, or is it not adapted to cold weather? Do the tops die down in the winter, or does it stay green?

It has become terrible in Fl and South Alabama, and only getting worse. Most people don’t know what it is or how it spreads. It doesn’t help that DOT mows it all the time when it’s seeded out spreading it like wildfire. Tops will turn tan in the winter instead of staying green. From everything I have read is that DOT brought it in years ago for erosion control. It works great for that, but not worth a crap for anything else. Also, I’ve had better luck spraying it and then burning the tops over tilling. Make sure to clean your equipment very well if you till it. Burning it in the fall makes it much easier to spot regrowth in the spring. Do NOT let it bloom and seed out

Cogongrass got here several ways. In Mobile, it became established after it was used as packing material in crates and then discarded. Other populations were introduced and tested for forage or introduced to be used for erosion control. Like so many things we brought in, we did it to ourselves.
If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Treat area with high rate of arsenal. Spread the pile out and treat all of the dirt. Also make sure to spray outside the visible patch about 10’.
If arsenal can’t be used then use 5% mix of gly and treat anytime it greens up What Sanderson said. I’ve had success on a couple small patches doing this exact regimen.

Had some brought in by logging crew and fortunately found it early before it could get established. Hit the area with a Gly/Arsenal mix. Sprayed the whole area and went 10 - 15 feet beyond to make sure any runners that we couldn’t see were killed. A year later and I think it is dead and I have not seen any new sprouts. Cost me a few oaks trees, but worth it to keep this stuff from spreading.
Lots of info out there from USDA and state forestery departments.

Alabama powers ROW cutters brought ours in. The logging crew a few years later spread it everywhere.

Sorry to hear that. I have been dealing with it in one part of my place for years. For the first time ever I found a patch in my pines just a few weeks ago. Was spreading corn in a lane and noticed a patch of grass I did not like the look of. Sure enough it was Cogon. I have had good success killing it out with a hot Gly dose but it usually takes a couple of years. Then it pops back up 200 yards away.

Use straight arsenal where possible and spray 10-15’ outside of the patch. You’ll have much better success.
