Folks we all know all coal miners aren’t all bad hell my uncle did it for 35 yrs and we are thankful we have those guys. Most chose that job for good wages but lots of union people fall victim to a system designed for selfish greed from the top down. The system of this ain’t my job that’s not my job and we want more because the company is taking away more due to inflation and health care. Unions were needed beginning the industrial revolution because conditions were so bad for workers but now days it’s designed by the system to help bad actors keep working that probably didn’t start off that way but the very bad system trained them to be that way over time. Companies are gonna do what the gotta do today regardless of unions. The days of having ur cake and eating it to are gone. If u think otherwise u are gonna be very disappointed. I’ve never seen anything long term good come from unions and it’s not my thing. Again the system takes some good hard working people that over time become indoctrinated into a system of doing less and want more because that’s the system. If u have doubts look at every company that has unions.

Its no use brother. Around here, it's close minded thinking. You will be tar and feathered if you don't support high gas prices and working for nothing.

I’ve worked with people that have more degrees than most on here but they chose to work for Union companies because of the higher pay and better quality of benefits. Like I’ve said before good companies don’t need unions but they’re fewer and fewer good companies. What’s ironic is that it wasn’t but a few months ago that a lot of professions were walking out or talking about walking out due to the Xiden mandates and there were a lot of people supporting these people. If that’s not a Union then I don’t know what is. Unions are formed to achieve a common goal. The company knows what it can afford and the Union knows what it can give up. That’s why it’s called a negotiation. Too long now these large corporations and conglomerate have played the spoiled kid and said I’ll take my ball “factory” and go play in another country. NAFTA and GAT gutted this country because Canada and Mexico are not in the same field as the USA. Free trade is not free trade.

First, I wouldn't have a chapped arse because I don't care how much or how little you make.

Second, When someone hires on with certain hourly wages, insurance, retirement, etc. which is ALL based on a CONTRACT that is subject to change then that individual hires on knowing that there is a risk of everything changing AND that all change might not be what they like.

I've never worked for a union.
I've never needed someone between me and my paycheck.
"Unions protect worker's rights", "If it wasn't for unions we wouldn't have ____________." I would believe that if Unions didn't charge laborers $$$$ to be union members. A "union" is just someone between a laborer and an employer, someone who is threatening the employer and taking $$$$ from the laborer. Unions sound a lot like politicians to me and to be honest they are probably getting paid by both sides. Sounds like its always a win win situation for the union. Am I correct?

I love to hear stories of companies on strike where the supervisors , managers , engineers , clerks , hit the production floor and get a taste of what the folks that tote the load do. It usually doesn't work out too well, low production, tear up equipment , injuries , the list goes on. Good for them to get a reality check while walking in the working mans shoes. Other than that I don't give a hoot either way.

I hadn’t read all this yet and don’t know much about this situation but this piece here is wrong. That was part of their compensation.

I have. While I agree that I wouldn’t work in an underground, non-union mine, due to the safety, a lot of what has been said above by the others is true. I’ve seen some really great men that worked in those mines. I’ve also seen some real POS. Guys that took advantage of the protection the union offered. Guys that would hide when work was to be done if it wasn’t convenient. Guys that would purposely tear up equipment so they could sit on their hind ends for the rest of their shift. Even now, during this strike, there are guys that are tearing up equipment (cameras, lights, etc…) by shooting them, just to vandalize the company’s property. I know this for a fact. Hard for me to feel sorry for a group that would allow it’s members to do that.

I've seen the same issues on construction projects with union workers, especially on projects with both union and non union crews. Union workers vandalizing equipment, property etc of non union crews.

Anytime I hear the 'we want our fair share' argument, I tune out. Its aloadofchit. Don't like what they're offering the go greet people at Walmarks. There would not be any coal mining opportunities without those so called rich investors.

It’s interesting to me that those that sit on the wall side of a desk often forget about what it’s like on the door side. Even though they love to tell you that they know all about it.

I'll bite , don't think it's that simple The big 3's products coming out of Mexico aren't made in union plants. Japs beat US auto at their own game in all aspects of the game from engineering , management , quality control , tooling and yes , production labor. It goes all the way back to after WWII and US occupied Japan.

Was talking to a friend that was a Ford dealer, he knows I'm a Toyota and Honda fan . He said when he hears Toyota or Honda he thinks of Pearl Harbor , I shot back when I hear Ford or Chevy I think Mexico.........silence .

True but you still have a lot of don’t give a schit that goes on in the big 3 plants. The japs def know how to get more quality production and it never involves a union at any point

When I was a kid my Dad was on strike from a Birmingham steel mill. I went with him to a meeting at the union hall. The union man was there giving a speech about how they should stand strong and not vote to accept the company offer. I left there and thought about it all the way home. We were eating supper that night and I asked my Dad if the Union rep was still getting the pittance that he was getting paid each week. My Dad who was pro union all of my life sat there for a minute. He finally responded that he had never thought about it like that. That man who was speaking was in his suit with a fancy watch driving a big car and still getting a big paycheck from the union while they told the workers to hold out. He really did not have the workers best interest at hand.

My Dad used to be against Big Business and the Rich investor too. He is 83 now and looking back he sees just what I was talking about. The multiple Union strikes that we endured were never about working conditions or worker safety. They were all about strong arming the company. He was at that Steel mill for over 20 years and in the end the Union got the shop closed because of their mandates. The company finally said it wasn't worth it and closed the mill.

Yep , Unions now are all about lining their own pockets and lining the pockets of Democrats.

Well for the record this might be an aldeer record for back and forth discussions that didn’t require the ban hammer or a padlock! 😂😂😂😂

One last thing from me then I’m out (I think). Three different people referred to myself and others as narrow minded. It’s not narrow minded to take in all aspects of an issue. You guys are all so PRO UNION that you “can’t see the forest for the trees”. Unions do sone things good and sone things bad and sometimes had rather a business fold than actually prosper. In this case the union could be 100% right (I’m not sure). But I can assure that’s not always the case.
