I have. While I agree that I wouldn’t work in an underground, non-union mine, due to the safety, a lot of what has been said above by the others is true. I’ve seen some really great men that worked in those mines. I’ve also seen some real POS. Guys that took advantage of the protection the union offered. Guys that would hide when work was to be done if it wasn’t convenient. Guys that would purposely tear up equipment so they could sit on their hind ends for the rest of their shift. Even now, during this strike, there are guys that are tearing up equipment (cameras, lights, etc…) by shooting them, just to vandalize the company’s property. I know this for a fact. Hard for me to feel sorry for a group that would allow it’s members to do that.
