I've been to Woodford Reserve . It's just west of Lexington and a first class place. Great tour and tasting afterwards . Make a reservation or be there early in the day.

I went to a Maker's Mark tasting last week in Birmingham. They gave us 5 or 6 of their blends (based on the different types of wood they use to finish the aging process), and let us blend our own. They saved the ratio, and are going to make a barrel and ship the bottles to Alabama sometime in March or so. Pretty cool idea.

I’ve done it a few times. Buffalo trace, makers mark and wild turkey are all real good to visit. Makers mark is about the best tour and Buffalo trace is second, do the hard hat tour if you can. Four roses isn’t that great, Jim beam not that great either. It’s hard to hit a lot in one day, but you can do three or four easy enough.

I have taken the tour at Makers and Woodford. Both are super nice. I have stopped at Buffalo Trade several times but have not taken the tour there. Reservation early is a good idea.
If you are going up there in late October keep your eye out for 4 legged critters. The body count on the blue grass parkway can get impressive when the rut is starting.

I did the trail in 2017. Both the big distilleries and the micro tour. I enjoyed both but the micro/craft guys were my favorite. Saw a lot of Kentucky as well. Looking back, I’d skip the outermost if you aren’t going to be passing close by. MB Roland way out in Pembroke has some interesting ‘shines but they’re nearly to Paducah. The place just south of Cincinnati was not of much count. Most of the big and small options are either clustered around Bardstown or Louisville. If you go to Louisville, I suggest Peerless and a stop at the Troll Pub under the bridge.

Lots of fun. Agree with the suggestions above about Makers, Buffalo Trace and Woodford. Hit up Keeneland in Lexington on Saturday to watch the horses run and check out the scenery at the track.

That’s really beautiful country up there. Be as stated earlier if you drive the Blue grass in late Oct or early Nov watch for deer.

If you find yourself in Lexington be sure to swing by Town Branch Distilling/Alltech brewing. Alltech make the KY bourbon barrel stout if you’ve ever had that. You’ll get beers and spirits on the same tour.

I would check and make sure the one's you want to see are open for visits...some were closed due to covid

Kentucky Covid numbers are really high so check first. I would take the tour where you just get on and off the bus and drink and enjoy

Thanks in advance! Woodford is definitely good one. I really enjoyed it. Beautiful country in area. Go online and plan your trip out as these distilleries are spread out. So allow enough time as I ran out and couldn’t make it to Makers Mark. There’s a bunch of towns like Bardstown that have multiple distilleries in the area. Some of the majors have multiple brands like Heaven Hill which has Elijah Craig and rittenhouse rye. My best advice is look at trail online; allow enough time; and pick your favorites. Have fun.

Woodford is either closed or fully booked.
There’s a couple that won’t let you book more than 15 days out too
