I been shooting at some coyotes at about 750 with my 308. Haven’t hit one yet, shot prolly 20 shots last winter. Came awfully close but no hit yet...

A lotta variables to that question. You’d be surprised how much weather plays into the true answer.
On a hot humid day heat waves will limit and distort when magnified at a variable distance, especially over loose moist dirt or sand, depending again on how hot or humid.
On a clear calm cool day with a fine duplex and before I started going blind 6-700 yards on a 20x20 probably
I guess an honest answer would be a lot farther than most people would ever know.
Back in the day lots of us shot LR (1000 plus) with regular scopes, that’s all we had.

Stationary target: 500 yards.
Ive made a 1000 yard shot before on a target with the dope cranked.
The furthest I’ve ever shot an animal was probably 200 yards.

Longest shot I’ve ever made and ever attempted was 280 yards and dropped a doe across a valley. I was 18, and after dragging that deer back up that hill, I told myself never again.

Coyote standing still, broadside, at a little over 300 yards back when I was in my early 20’s.
The longest I’ve cleanly killed a deer was at about 375. That was shooting from a rest on a stand. Held over hair about a body depth.
I’ve shot targets out to around 500 but not always with first round hits.

I kilt one one time at 420 yds with a 223 and ballistic tips. I aimed just a scunt hair over the treeline. Was a windy day too
