Hey guys,
I got alternate status for Portland landing primitive weapons on 11/16/21 and also Upper state archery on 1/6/21. Any advice on which hunt I should select? Apparently you can’t select both. I know Portland Landing has some big bucks but I don’t know much about Upper state. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

If they are both alternates, I’d 100% do Portland landing.

My reasoning is that I've been hunting on Portland Landing at least five times before it was Public land and always saw plenty of deer. I've never hunted the other place you mention. keep in mind this has been a number of years ago.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

What is Upper State???.....Never heard of it Near Jackson in Clarke Co. Very cool place. Big tornado damage swath across it from a few years ago. I know the bio there. Lots of deer and hogs.

Take the Portland. Both have tons of deer so you’ll see plenty at either location but your chance to kill a real trophy class buck will be 100% better at Portland. As they say, it’s in the mud and the blood. Much better soils At Portland and historically, a 4 yr old Portland buck will prob score 20” better and weigh 25-30 lbs more than the same age buck down at Jackson. That slight shift north makes a big difference.

Abolt pretty much nailed it. They are both good hunting quantity wise. But, Portland landing is probably the most famed ground in Alabama for a reason. It’s been highly managed by all the landowners in the bend for countless years. It is literally a zoo. Deer stand there and look at you half the time. No way that upper state can compete with the antler Potential.

I didn’t think they started upgrading alternates to hunter until the deadline had passed today at 3pm?

I saw deer every sit at Upper State last year. But the size of the deer on that place is small.. 3.5 year old 8pt dress 73lbs and was 11" inside spread.

Sorry Night, I just saw this. Im good. Looking forward to it too much. My brother and I went for the scout day and I'm not gonna lie. Im a little disappointed that there is only one food plot on the entire unit.

it's a no-brainer, choose the 11/16/21 hunt. You've already missed the 1/06/21 hunt.
