Hey guys, having issues with Accubonds and was wondering if anyone has seen the same. I've been shooting them for years both factory loaded and handloads. I love the performance of the bullet on deer. Never had an issue, but now i have an antelope hunt in August so i've started shooting them at longer distances. At 100yards they shoot one ragged hole but at 300 they're shooting 3-4 inches. I tried different powders, worked from bottom to max loads and still cant find a load that shoots good at distance.

I'm weighing the brass to get the most consistent , tried GM210 and CCI primers, tried Varget and RL 15 powder. Different bullet seating depths.

I know the rifle is capable because i can stick a few Gold Medal Match bullets in the gun and shoot sub 1 inch at 300yards. I'm at a lost. I have some Barnes X bullets on the way maybe they will do better.

Do you have a chronograph? Be interested to see what the extreme spread is. Shots vertically stringing? Left to right?

What caliber? With the accubonds in my 30.06 I found that RL-19 is the best for the accuracy and speed. 4350 is next, i love the accubonds but I would also consider the Barnes TTSX line. they group much better and pack a punch

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

My questions also, but 300 yards isn t really enough distance to really see a vertical pattern.

I would suggest you should try different seating depths. Bryan Lutz with Berger bullets has a method to determine optimal seating depth. Should be able to find this on the Berger website.

I love accubonds but have heard from several people that in the larger calibers this can happen. I would trust that what AU338 is saying is the gospel on this subject. I know that he uses lots of accubonds in large calibers with great success.

Well, i went to the range today with 11 different 3 shot loads. I tried 6 different powders. All were loaded with 165 gr. Accubonds. Right before i left i got in the 165 grain Barnes TTSX so i loaded 3 of those with 44 grains of Varget. Went to COAL that Barnes said. Shot the Accubonds and best group was right at 3". Most were 5+.

I was getting pretty pissed. Then I tried the 3 Barnes X. They ended up being .879 at 300 yards. I guess the Accubonds and my gun just don't like each other.

What powders did you try? I just picked up a box of accubonds at Bass Pro the other day. I have several reloads I need to get to the range and shoot and see how they do. Figured it would try some with the accubonds as well.

I mainly load IMR4064. I have some CFE223, and also BL-C2. Am tinkering with leverevolution powder and the 160 FTX for the 308 marlin express to see how it shoots. I started off with the factory load, and then went up a little. Got some Win 760 I want to try too, but don't think I will get the velocity out of it.

IMR 4064 in 44 and 44.5 grains
H4895 in 42.5 and 43
W748 in 44
CFE in 47.5,48.3 and 46.5
3031 in 40 and 43
and Varget in 42,42.5,43,44,44.5,45

It took multiple days to shoot all these.

I tried one load of 44grains of Varget with 165 TTSX Barnes and found my load. I really think there was an issue with the Accubonds i had. They would all shoot .25" or under at 100 but went flying at 300.Post what you find if you would please. I am very interested in seeing what they do for you.

LockJaw, Just wondering if you have had a chance to shoot the acubonds, I have had some great luck with the Barnes.

My 308 lovers the Barnes 130 grain TSX, they shoot a 3/8" group at 100 yards over Varget and Barnes .05 jump.

Not with accubonds, but I've had a few recipes with other pills shoot well at 100, but consistently open up at longer distances. Never figured it out either.
