2019 Silvarado, 8 speed, 30k miles

Driving to work yesterday and noticed between 15mph and 40mph it couldn't seem to find a gear. It would go:
1st - 2nd - 3rd - 4th - 3rd - 4th - 3rd - 4th - 5th - 4th... never in any gear longer than 5 seconds. It wasn't super noticeable in terms of jerk, but you could feel a slight "bump" and see the RPMs changing.

Called dealership (UJ) and it's scheduled to go in on Tuesday.

Additional fun: dealership says that due to shortages, they don't have anything to loan me while it is in for repairs. hardly no new vehicles on the lot, they've sold all the demos, etc. Service manager did say he would try to, if nothing else, get a rental from Enterprise or someone for me and have it available. We shall see.

Cars use to be total pieces of junk. Then they started making better products and giving warranties out to 100,000 miles to entice buyers to purchase their products vs. the competition. I think that was a good thing for the Consumer.

They don't give you a warranty any longer in 2021 you have to purchase it. There is no incentive. We are headed back to 1985 where it was common at 50,000 to have to put a transmission in a truck and people didn't want to own anything with over 100,000 on it because of the repairs. Only this time it's pretty hard to fix a car yourself today they are too complicated to work on.

Buy stock in Toyota and Nissan, etc. We are headed back. GM is a dumpster fire right now. Ford might follow suit I hope not. If you drive anything made by Chrysler expect no change you already own a POS.

Not a truck, but have an extra Camry in the yard if you need it while yours is being repaired.

I appreciate the offer. I've got an extra vehicle at the house, but something about paying "new truck money" and having to take it in after 30k for something I shouldn't have trouble with... not to mention not having a vehicle from them to drive in the meantime really grinds my gears.

I have always been a Chevy truck fan but not anymore. I don't understand how they can be in the business of making auto trannys for so long and still have this many problems with them. Sorry to have to deal with all that bs.

Last time I took my chevy that's under warranty in for the check engine light, they told me their policy was not to give out loaners anymore. They got me a rental car, which had to be a chevy also. I figured this was a policy all the dealerships were doing.

That was my experience as well. The dealership I was dealing with used Enterprise but later set up an in house rental agency so they get the money paid out by GM for warranty rentals

GM 8 speed transmissions SUCK. I’m 20k miles in on the 10 speed and it seems night and day difference.

I would love to get an older GM truck, pull it off the frame and really box the frame good, then put it back together with an aftermarket fuel injected engine, and a trans that could handle it. Heck I could probably just get a turbo 400 trans for it and a gear vendors OD and be good.

I would love to get an older truck with no electronic ignition and a 2 bbl carb with 3 on the tree and make no changes to it.

None of the Big Three want me to have a new truck.

Lockjaw, here you go. 1955-59 trucks.

I seriously thought about it as I’ve always wanted a 58-59 Apache but a 1 year wait and paying up front didn’t sit well with me.

For sure. Though there are no good points/condensers these days. All junk out of China. Got a few spare NOS units off the eBay stashed away but went to a Pertronix Ignitor II on the 240 in the 68. 77 is still kicking with the factory Duraspark. Got a spare NOS pickup and control module for it.

I think the only way to tear up the NP435/SM465 four speeds in the old Ford/GMs is to flat tow them with the driveshaft in. NP205 transfer case is a great one too.

We had an old Ford Ranger back when it was a full-size pickup with three on the tree and that thing was fun as hayul to drive!

Those are beautiful. If you could stop yourself from going too custom it is worth it.

I have 2850 miles on my new 2021 and I agree the 10 speed transmission is way better than the 8spd.

Not sure why people keep buying these crappy products. It's been this way for years and it's all over this forum in every single truck thread...
