I know it happens every year but it sucks. Two of my favorite places to hunt in the world are hunting clubs now 🤦🏼♂️

It does suck. What can we/the state do to add more public land? This is a serious question I don’t know and it’s sad to say that I’m not really educated on the issue. I feel like we’re not adding to the WMAs as fast as they we are losing acreage. Since 2017 I’ve killed 9 bucks on these parcels that the wma lost and several of them are on the wall. I know have hundreds of OnX waypoints that are useless to me 😂

The Autauga WMA land was lost for awhile now most of it is back So my understanding of what happened at Autauga WMA is at first the state leased all the land from a timber company. Then that timber company sold the land to another Timber company. Now the state and forever wild own most of Autauga WMA so it should stay.

I know of around 2000 acres that Cahaba lost, but there may be more that I’m not aware of.

They lost my turkey honey hole off hwy 13 several years ago.
I really don’t understand what sykes does with all the money he’s rounding up. Record license sales + corn permits should mean plenty of money floating around the department. Yet we don’t have any game wardens and our public lands are shrinking. Heck, we’d be completely screwed in this state, if it wasn’t for federal lands. Where I live there not a single piece of public hunting within an hour radius. There’s tons of places across the state that you can draw a 100 mile circle and not have any public land. I guess what really chaps my azz about it is between all the forever wild pieces that they won’t let you hunt, and all the land that the state leases out to hunting clubs, we could add hundreds of small access public lands around the state. Instead, we are raking in record dollar amounts and all we get is 5 full time employees at Portland landing, highly managing that place so the director of ALEA and the attorney general can go turkey hunting….

from what i have heard ( you know how that goes) is that the state got a 99 year lease for the cahaba wma.. one condition of the lease was the biologist would upkeep the road system and the timber co would maintain it during an active timber harvest . many of those roads we not worked in several years, now again this is what i heard and im sure there is something else that lead to the timber co pulling out
