Not sure what "pills" you received from the doc but if he did not give you oral steroids(prednisone), then that is probably your best bet. Z-pack was mentioned earlier, but that is an antibiotic and won't do anything unless you scratch yourself raw and develop a secondary infection of the skin. Not sure if it helps but putting urine on the itching areas has been reported to work. Maybe this is where the beer really helps, keep drinking and urinating
