Got an invite last Saturday to go with a buddy up to a property he has permission to hunt. We had hunted turkeys on the place before, it is near Eastaboga. We arrived early to find someone else had arrived even earlier........and the spot my buddy usually hunted was taken. That left us hunting a less desirable patch of woods, and one that neither of us was the least familiar with, total unknown. At daylight we have silence; plenty of owls, crows, and even some geese to get one stirred up.......but silence. We set up in a couple spots that look promising, but no luck. On set up 3, my buddy is shooter and I am calling. I strike a gobbler and bring him in close.........but our set up prevents us from closing the deal. Should have got a shot at this bird, he came in quick and he got close. But there was a rise in the land with a bench over that little ridge. He hung up on that bench....and we couldn't see him from our positions. He dropped back into the bottom, we tried the end-around on him but never heard from him again. Good luck fellas......
