Finally made it down to my Russell county spot for the first time this season. Used to be my best spot but it's been slacking up the last few years. Still has a few birds so let's see what happens. Good luck fellas.

Boogered one up this morning. Tried to slip in close to him in the tree, misjudged how far he was, and walked right under him. Last time I saw him he was at about mach 5 flying for the next county.

I hate deer hunting for turkeys but that's what I'm doing right now. Worked my way to the back of this 400 acres and I haven't heard the first turkey sound, so here I sit on a 2 acre clover field

Been quiet this morning. Haven’t seen nor heard anything. I’m on my 3rd spot now.
Fixing to ease out and back home to go to work.

Went on invite hunt with my best friend on some beautiful River bottom land I use to hunt as a kid
He gobbled 20-25 times on limb - I reluctantly called to him lightly on limb - he flew down 400-500 yards away from us and gobble 2-3 more times
Just glad I was finally on property that had a gobbler on it
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

Set up in the dark this morning on a field edge. Put a 3/4 strut jake and hen decoy out because field birds don't play fair. 5:45 heard the first gobble and thought it was about 100. He pitched into the woods about 6:15 and headed away. I hit a flydown cackle with no response. 5 minutes later he gobbled further away. I went around the corner and let out a few faint clucks and one yelping series. Moved back to my spot to wait.
About that time a bird across the field in a hollow started gobbling. He was on fire and probably gobbled at least 100 times. From that point forward I only answered the gobbler across the field. The close bird gobbled when I answered the other bird. Multiple times cut me off and double and triple gobbled. At this point, I went quiet.
Time went on with both birds gobbling. The far bird a lot more. Finally see the closer gobbler. He gets to 70 eyeing the decoys and turns around. A light yelp elicits 3 gobbles. He stands his ground and eventually fades back regardless of calling/lack of calling.
Got to go to work. So I try to sneak around the bend and get to 40. The hens of the far gobbler bust me and with the putts my hunt ends.
I feel like a 16 year old that got stood up at the prom!!!

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing. Full green up gets me every year and its a lesson I have to learn each season. Before leaf out, he sounded about the same as he did this morning and he'd be on the next ridge about .3-.4 miles away. This morning he was just a few hundred yards away and I bumbled into him. Dang it.
