It's been a rough first week of the season for me. Been close to a few but hearing most gobbles a long ways off. However I was able to contribute a small amount of points to the team this morning and got my first public land bird. Again this bird was a good ways away and the only bird I heard gobbling. After thinking I pinpointed where he was at jumped in truck and went to him. Got out of truck and heard him gobbling and almost moved again but decided I could ease through the woods to where I thought he might be. So I go 260 yds down the road and realize he's closer than what I thought. Got set up and few clicks and yelps and he come in on a string. Guess the good lord decided to bless me this morning after enduring those rough mornings this past week.

Bird was 18 lbs and has 1 1/8" spurs but either has bad beard genetics or beard rot or a combo of the two. His beard was 3 inches and no bigger round than a number 2 pencil.

Good luck to ya, Rolloverdave!

Got some sho nuff hunters on this team, everyone is getting in the woods and getting after 'em. And we got some stone cold killas too, most of the team has already scored!! Be sure to get your birds posted up in the score thread. I'm probably not gonna be able to get in the woods until after Easter, so y'all wear 'em out and post up some stories.

Where is everyone's hunting? For me its near the Chilton/Autauga county line, and in Winston county near Haleyville.

This year has been tough! Yesterday I set up on a bird he’s gobbling good on limb I see him pitch down and he goes silent finally hear his hens up on ridge top tht I couldn’t get to so I call a hen to me 50 yds he was strutting on the hill they eventually work down the hillside but 70 yds away never came any closer! This morning I got back in same spot he’s not there and 2 are hammering it across the road I make my way to them and of course they go silent dang birds are getting to me

I'm waiting to hear a gobble on wma this morning. Been after them since Friday. Had my nephew with me over the weekend trying to get his first bird. We got close Sunday morning but birds were across property line. Either birds won't gobbled, a long ways off or the just across the line and won't budge has been my season so far.

They were silent on me yesterday morning up near Haleyville. While I was making the drive up there, noticed the stars were out, saw several deer along the sides of the roads. Really had high hopes there would be multiple birds sounding off. Didn't hear a single gobble. It was a nice morning with plenty of sun and basically no wind........dunno what had them tight lipped. 🤷‍♂️ I gave my legs a good workout up and down those hillsides, and never did strike one. I've got church duties on Sunday so will not be able to take advantage of the nice morning the weatherman has predicted. Good luck to those who can get after 'em!
