I agree this morning was active. I was a caller this morning (no gun), but I heard a lot of gobbling and called in two hens and 5 jakes. A sixth bird was not able to be positively identified. He came in with the 5 jakes, but was hanging back. I also witnessed him gobble, but we could never identify whether he had a beard and never strut. To make us both feel better, I'm calling it a jake.


That reminds me of my very 1st turkey. It was a jake with a 4 inch beard. He came in with 3 others and i shot the closest one. After I calmed down and all congrats we’re over, the Old Timer that called him in asked me “Why didn’t you wait and shoot the longbeard behind the jakes?” I was so hyper-focused on the jakes that I never even saw the mature bird bringing up the rear.
