Rookie buddy of mine just missed his first. Calling a bird out front and had one come in silent from behind. Was right behind us at 20 yards before we knew it. Nothing but a cluck-purr. That really stinks. The more I turkey hunt the more I believe silent birds are more and more the rule rather than just an exception, especially public land birds. Like someone said yesterday there's no telling how many gobblers have come in silent on us, saw something, and left without us ever knowing.
