If, as a seller, I inflate my price by 3% to cover the Aldeer fee, and dont say anything about it, everyone is ok.
But, if I lay out that I would like the buyer to pay 3% on the front end and fly disclose what I am doing, people dont like it?

Odd.

in the real world it works like this.

I need a $100 for an item. I know that 3% is going to be added to my end of the transaction. So I price the item @ $125. Some.savy buyer comes thru and says I'll give you 85. I respond that the lowest I can go is 115, to which I get a ok...I can do 110. I agree.

Congratulations non disclosure just added 10% to the price for the buyer.

The post came down but I am assuming based on context that it was 22 ammo for a higher than normal price with the seller paying the fee.

I read the rule. I like that the fee can be openly negotiated.

The guy is new and probably uncomfortable with how to pay the 3% and figured that an experience person would be able to do that better.

Happy Easter.

It has gotten a little touchy around here. I’m sure I missed something, but I did notice that Perch was gone. What happened to him?

Im keeping a list of all you folks supporting jacking up the price just because you can. Ill go on and tell you, if you call me one day to get that big dead tree hanging over your bedroom cut, ill be playing by your rules. When i figure the price, ill be thinking "this is one of those who believes you should stick it to anybody you can just because the market is up or because theyre in a tight and really need it. Im gona use the lesson they taught me right here. " There goes all that money you made on your ammo sales. What happened to "do unto others"?

Something I learned a long time ago is you can take advantage of an unsuspecting person or one in need. But they will remember, never do business with you again, and tell everyone they know what you did. The immediate profit is never worth the long term cost.

You are a new guy here, no posts to amount to anything, you want to use this place to sell your wares, yet you don't want to pay a measly 3% of your selling price so you state that someone else has to pay it for you if they buy your goods.

I don't care who you are, that ain't right.

The OP fits the very definition of the kind of person Skinny has tried to keep from abusing the Aldeer Classifieds.

As for who is responsible for paying, let me ask this question...

How many buyers on here have you ever seen Skinny call out or turn yellow for not paying 3% on something that they bought?

How many "Hmmm" threads have you seen Skinny make about buyers not paying their 3%?

I'll answer both questions. None. Zero.

But I've seen plenty of call outs, yellow usernames and "Hmmm" threads done toward the sellers.

When it doesn't get paid, Skinny gets on to the sellers, not the buyers.

I agree with Hunterbuck that Skinny doesn't care who pays the 3%, as long as he gets his money but the burden of responsibility initially does belong to the seller.

Hmmm. grin

Thank You Billy, its difficult to keep a mostly free classifieds place running but folks like you get it. I truly appreciate the good folks like you.

For those that missed the original post but are offering bad takes anyway....

The OP originally had a mixture of 22LR ammo...various brands (Federal, CCI, Remington, etc). 4050 rounds total. He originally wanted $800 for the lot, or about $.197/round. The cheapest 22lr on ammoseek right now is $.197/round...then you pay shipping on top of that (and one retailer is charging a $5 handling charge in addition). The OP questioned in his original post if he was too high or not.

At the first sign of blowback regarding his price (which has been frowned on in the past), the OP immediately lowered his price on the lot to $400, or about $.099/round. A pretty decent deal at current prices. Let's not forget, and this is important...ammo is "previously purchased", not "used". No one's "gotten the good out of it" already.

Capitalism was working, but, the conversation became a shitshow regarding him requesting the buyer paying the 3%, which the OP was clear about in his original post, so the OP pulled his ad completely.

So, instead of someone getting 4050 rounds of 22lr for $412 (or possibly lower depending on negotiations), no one got a decent deal, and the site missed out on some money too.

I don't know the OP, and I don't run this site. However, it seems to me he was playing by the rules, but maybe his crime was being only a seller on the site...which isn't part of the official "rules" of the classifieds at this time.

Pretty sure Cuz-Pat is right on this one. The 3% is on the seller unless the buyer agrees after the deal.

I totally agree with paying the 3%. Who pays it is irrelevant imo. I just didn’t see where his pricing was so out of line that something needed to be said. I believe in asking whatever u wanna ask for an item. It won’t sell if it’s priced too high. But to those keeping track , I’ve never ripped anyone off on anything I’ve ever sold. Most of my stuff I give away or sell cheap. My point was there was no reason to jump the op for his pricing because it wasn’t out of line to begin with.

I'm sitting on thousands of rounds of .22lr that I've stored for a rainy day over the past few years. Should I sell it on this site at 10 cents a round plus 3%(about half the market price) or sit on it and let someone else go without any? Or sell it at 6 cents a round so someone else can put it on Gunbroker for 18 cents a round plus shipping. I personally see no evil in selling anything for what it is worth. Selling it for less is utterly asinine.

After reading this thread, like jw, I feel like we have some shady folk here as well as a lot of good folk. I’ve made several behind the classifieds purchases on here and a few trades through the classifieds. I sent 10% on one deal and never asked the guy I bought the 20ga from if he donated or not. The 10% was a mistake but it gives me justification that I done what was right.

That being said in my opinion which is not much, I believe this sites 3% should be an upfront before posting a sale or trade
If it’s gonna have the hands of bankers and lawyers shady trading..
