I wasn’t able to hunt this morning but as soon as the rain quit I was in the woods and heard this ole boy gobble on his own! He was a couple hundred yards away and I made my way to him and set up just over the ridge from where I thought he was, I called and he hammered! He got fired up and closed the distance but stayed just outta sight and gobbled several times, he went silent and I thought he’d show up but the next time he gobbled he had walked away from me and I wanted to move but I stayed put and a few minutes later he gobbled again and he was close again! I didn’t say a word and I could hear him spitting and drumming, he gobbled a few more times and silence again. 10-15 minutes later he gobbled and he’s on the ridge to my right so I turn that way and hear him spit and finally see him, he’s about 60-70 yards and inching my way! It took him 10 minutes to come 30 yards! He was a fine turkey and I’m thankful for the opportunity! I called to him at 12:07 and pulled the trigger at 1:03! There’s nothing like a good hunt like this!
