That's a poor analogy....just because some things can't be negotiated doesn't mean others can't. When I had SiriusXM in my truck, the normal rate was $17/month. I had it for YEARS and never paid more than $5/month. The 6 months for $30 deal was an "introductory promo" but you literally just had to call and ask them and they'd let you continue it. So, a 5-10 minute phone call, twice/year, saved me $144/year.

Direct TV was exactly the same, until AT&T bought them. Now, not only do they not work with you, they don't even really try to keep you. You tell them you're considering going elsewhere, they just say "Okay, bye". They quite literally DO. NOT. CARE.

I cut the cord for years but with 10mb dsl I gave up. I signed up for two years of Dish which is price locked. A little more expensive than what Sling was getting from me with their latest hike but there have been zero issues. If Starlink works out then I can probably just go back to streaming. Life’s too short to worry about not being able to watch something because someone else was streaming in the house.

Cancelled DIRECTV/AT&T a few years ago and went with DISH network. Our family has been pleased with DISH and it is a good bit cheaper than DIRECTV.

I guess I'm a minority.

I called direct, and hung up until I got someone I understood. I was nice, told them I was pleased with Direct, and had been a customer for 17 years. Told the guy I needed help in getting my bill down to what it had been, as I had been paying the higher price for 6 months. I told him I wasn't making threats to leave, but needed the lower rate.

Guy was nice and helped me out.

God Bless,
David B.

Preorder Starlink- it's satellite-based internet access using low-earth orbiting satellites. You can order a terminal now and depending on the number of customers, they'll open up a cell for your area and give you internet access (perhaps they are already do it?). Around 50 Mbps with only around 30ms latency. Elon says that by the end of the year it'll be nearly 300 Mbps with less than 20ms latency. It's a complete game changer IMO particularly for those with limited cell or ISPs available.

I dropped them a year ago too for the same reason. Started with Hulu Live, and then swapped to YouTubeTV. Love it.

I work for a cable provider and tell you that if you can get fast internet Youtube TV is the way to go. I have five smart TV's (Samsung) all connected via wifi. I have YoutubeTV, ESPN + and Disney+. I get everything I could possibly want. I have Windstream fiber to the home (80.00) a month and I think all those other apps cost me about 70.00 a month. You could easily go way cheaper, but I like my sports so i had to get ESPN+.

If I outlive my wife, the first thing after her death will be to cancel my cable subscription. Right now she is arguing we need to add HBO Max to our bill. At least she quit buying DVD's. Probably have close to 1000 of them.

If you have good internet then a streaming service is the way to go. I dropped dish and my monthly Youtube Tv bill is a third of what my dish bill used to be. And I have all the essential channels that I want. SEC Channel, all my local channels, alI the ESPN channels, etc.etc. I used to worry about a channel for hunting shows but there are enough hunting shows on plain old youtube now to spend a lifetime watching with more being added daily.

The best index to a person’s character is (a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can’t fight back.

So I called Direct TV today to ask about cancelling service. I am on a promo code contract until Nov so cancelling would have cost me 180.00 dollars. So I told her why I was not happy with Direct TV. She got my bill lowered by almost 30.00 so I am keeping service until contract is up. Went from 107.00 to 87.00. Sometimes you get good customer service like we all should. She was out of Huntsville and mentioned that she was out of Alabama as well when she pulled up my bill. Happy for a change!

As I wrote earlier, I just hang up if they don't speak clear English, and I can't understand them.
It takes time, but $30 (and up) X 12 months is worth it to me.

Well I called to cancel my direct tv today and customer service sent me to customer loyalty. They ended up giving me $60 discount for the next year so I left it connected. Last week they told me there was nothing they could do. 🤔

I would honestly do without tv and just read a book at night before I got in bed with the devil (Directv) again.

Was a Direct T.V. customer for 20+ years.

My bill hit $150.00 per month, no movie channels, just top 150 package and local channels.

Called them, talked till I almost ran out of breath.

No help from them at all.

Cancelled and signed up with Dish with locked in rate of $84.00 per month for 2 years.

Now, I get phone calls and promo letters in mail from Direct T.V wanting my business and are offering me rates comparable to Dish.

Just wow!

Didn't want to help out a 20+ year loyal customer until I left and now they won't leave me alone.
