That's a poor analogy....just because some things can't be negotiated doesn't mean others can't. When I had SiriusXM in my truck, the normal rate was $17/month. I had it for YEARS and never paid more than $5/month. The 6 months for $30 deal was an "introductory promo" but you literally just had to call and ask them and they'd let you continue it. So, a 5-10 minute phone call, twice/year, saved me $144/year.

Direct TV was exactly the same, until AT&T bought them. Now, not only do they not work with you, they don't even really try to keep you. You tell them you're considering going elsewhere, they just say "Okay, bye". They quite literally DO. NOT. CARE.
