With the first Conservation Advisory Board meeting scheduled in two months, the controversial Draw-Loc is highlighted in a MPR story: http://blog.al.com/south-alabama-outdoors/2009/12/jerry_goffs_boxing-related_sho.html This has been presented to the CAB for consideration in the past. If you want to shoot a vertical crossbow, why not just shoot a regular crossbow instead of hybridizing a compound?

Why would anyone care? I would like to shoot one and see if I could use it. With one arm not sure how I would pull the trigger though.

Yeah, like about 100 times. The Draw-loc dude is about as annoying as the "slapchop" dude. :rolleyes: But really, I don't see why anyone would use the dang thing. I don't want my bow held at full draw for hours at a time. Maybe it won't hurt a thing at all, but I still don't like the idea.

Why shoot a compound with this thing if you can do the same with a crossbow that is designed and built for this type of shooting?
If you can't draw and shoot a compound without needing a locking brace, don't shoot it. Use a crossbow.
I think anvils should be legalized, too. If you can drop an anvil on a deer's head from a stand, that's a pretty good feat. Maybe truck tire rims, too, on a swinging tripwire.

They're prohibited in Alabama on compound bows aren't they? There is no "doctor's note" exemption or anything like that, either.

Clem, I still have my disabled crossbow permit and was advised it covered drawlocks, checked into it last year. I never tried one or even looked at one of them except the web site. Probably will never get one anyway, I would like to try to kill a turkey with an arrow... and that is what got me to ask if I could use my crossbow. I have the letter around here somewhere that explained that prior to crossbows being legal for everyone the disabled permit did allow me to use the xbow during the spring, however that was ended with the new law. They advised to get a drawlock as that was still covered under the old permit. Really I have a hard time getting them killed with a shotgun anyway. I did enjoy shooting and hunting with a compound before I went and barehanded 4600 volts way back in 1990. I would like to see if I could shoot the thing and see if I could actually do it. I am not sure I could even hold the drawlock with my left hand since I lost 80% of the strength in my left shoulder due to the electrical accident. "Oh hell boys" a feller sometimes dreams up all kinds of stupid things to do and try, esp after you can't do it anymore.

I sent Draw-Loc an email asking them which states and how many states it is legal in for the average hunter. Will let you know what they say.

With crossbows being legal here, it would make sense that the Draw-Loc would fall under a crossbow style of law. Not sure why it wasn't part of the initial change in the law. Alabama Legislative Council
approved changes to the state�s
hunting laws that legalize the use of
crossbows, turkey decoys and the
use of scopes on muzzleloaders. The
three proposals were recommended
by the Conservation Advisory Board
in May. The Alabama Department of
Conservation and Natural Resources
held a public hearing regarding the
issues in August and received more
than 3,000 comments regarding the
proposed regulations. An analysis of
those comments indicates that 78
percent favor the crossbow regulation,
86 percent favor the muzzleloader
regulation, and 77 percent favor the
turkey decoy regulation.
Conservation Commissioner
Barnett Lawley says these regulations
allow new choices for hunters. �They
are options and not mandates,� he
said. �That is why the overwhelming
majority of hunters favor all the
regulations so enthusiastically. Public
input indicates that a vocal minority
opposes the crossbow and turkey
decoy regulations, and virtually none
oppose the muzzleloader regulations.�
Archery deer season opens October
15 in Alabama, with gun season
opening November 20 and closing on
January 31, 2005. Crossbows will be
legal for the entire season.
Turkey season in most counties
opens March 15, 2005 and ends April
30, 2005. The use of non-mechanical
turkey decoys is now legal during the
spring season.
Scopes on muzzleloaders is now
also legal. Alabama has a special
muzzleloader season that runs from
November 15-19, just prior to the
regular gun season.
